2016-2017 Around The NBA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bucks and Raptors will go 7. Bucks win.

Rockets lose in round 1.....

These aren't wins that anyone in the lakers organization or its fans should be mad about

They now have a less than 50% chance of keeping their pick. If they lose out on a top 3 pick this year, a pick more valuable than any player on their roster, it would really impact their future. In fact would also cause them to lose their 2019 pick in a prior trade as well.

Really.

lets look at the lakers roster
Julius Randle Age 22 7th pick
Deangelo Russell Age 20 2nd pick
Brandom Ingram Age 19 2nd pick

Lakers are one of the youngest teams in the NBA and will have 3 top 5 picks under the age of 21 going into next season.

Lakers traded that pick. That's on them.
They still finished with the 3rd worst record in the league and what happens happens.

is the 2019 pick really that important for the lakers? if the pick goes to philly they will still have their 2018 pick otherwise if they keep the pick they 2018 will be unprotected.

Either way at the end of the season Lakers will be looking to get to the right side of .500 next season

Haha. they are not going to be a .500 team next season.
Their core is young i'll give them that but they are not ready to do anything substantial.
They are going to tank next year aswell.. especially if they lose their pick.

so if they don't convey their pick to philly next season then they could lose a top 3 pick for 2018.
thst only strengthens my position that 5 a five game win streak by a young team is nothing to cry about.

They have a separate trade with Orlando that has been pushed back for years that reverts to a 2nd if it is not conveyed by 2019.

So, they either lose their pick this year AND 2019, or lose a pick after next year when you say they are going to be a .500 team. You are presenting a false equivalency. The 4th/5th pick this year is going to be a GREAT prospect. And I'd be more than willing to sign them up for a lotto pick the next two seasons.

And yet Boston's only good offensive player, Isaiah Thomas, has shot 33 percent and 39 percent.

But we won't see this matchup this year anyways.

This is yet another reason why Kyrie Irving can't be counted out. He may not have outplayed the likes of Derozan, Thomas, Lowry in the regular season, but I am confident that he will in the postseason. While those guys shrink under true pressure, Kyrie elevates his game when it actually matters.

That's five or 6 years in a row of being in the lottery. If that's the case, the rebuild failed.

I'm not gonna day winning these games at the very end of the season was good for them. It wasn't. They were bad already.

But I don't think they should go into next year with a design to be bad. If their young kids win games, that's a good thing.

"Well, actually, the Lakers are good" is an interesting hill on which to die.
lets put this in context. You don't think the Lakers could emerge as a quality team similar to what we saw from Miami, Chicago, Portland, Indiana etc?

Regardless for the lakers Rebuild 2019 is not relevant at all.

They either get a top 3 pick in 2017 or a Pick in 2018. They don't get both.

currently their team has 3 top ten picks two of which are top 5 picks.

They have cap space, They have talent to keep or trade.

Lakers were better this season than the prior season. There is no reason to believe they wont continue to improve.

Phil lobbing all kinds of grenades at Melo. I would love to see Melo in LA provided the Clips can keep the other four starters intact. Don't think it makes them better than the Warriors, but it does finally give them the SF they've so desperately needed.

I also would posit that figuring out how (if) D-Lo and Clarkson can play together, is Randle a Point Forward who can start (ala Draymond) or do you have to bring him off the bench, what Ingram's potential is, can they play small-ball with Randle and Nance, does Zubac have talent, etc. have been really valuable. And the answers they've found - while winning - have also been really positive.

I think Lakers make some trades this offseason (Luol Deng especially) and find a way to finish near .500 next season, something like 38-44. That won't be necessarily good, but, it will let them figure out what they need to do to transform this young group into a playoff team.

My bet is they eventually try to move one of Clarkson or Russell and bring in a true PG to replace said trade player, Ingram will eventually become an elite scorer, and Randle has shown a lot of promise as a point forward.

The reason missing out on a draft pick this year hurts is because Fultz and Ball both look like they can also be superstars (I'm lower on Ball than most, but there is no denying his talent). If the Lakers aren't finishing their rebuild by 2019, though, then it has completely failed and they'll need to start over anyways.

I'm not saying it doesn't hurt. just think its not the death sentence or that the pick is the worth more than anyone on the current roster.... because there is a lot of talent on the roster
