2017-18 Cleveland Indians Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Of note that Tampa did not extend a QO to Logan Morrison.

Another 1B FA option for teams looking to add one. Hopefully the lack of draft pick compensation with him moves him up over Santana on a few teams' want lists.

I know Santana wants to be here, but the more I think about it the more I see him getting offers well out of our range.

Switch hitter, great walk rate, solid power, and now gold glove caliber 1B.

For our sake, hopefully his market is weak and he takes the QO or an extension from us. As 3 Ball said above, hopefully he gets lost in the mix of the likes of Morrison, Hosmer, Alonso and even other power guys like Moustakas, Bruce, JD Martinez, etc.

Well I was told by the astute baseball minds here about 5 months ago that signing Santana is a waste of money...

Is there actually any chance he accepts that QO?

Actually there is a fairly good chance he does and that is mostly to play one more season with this group of guys. If Carlos does take the QO that means we cannot trade Kipnis, Chisenhall etc since he is signing the QO to play with them. He can join other teams, but this is easily his best chance and he knows the guys. I am not saying he will, but I wouldn't be surprised if he takes a gamble on himself and stays with the team for one more season. If he has another productive year, its not like he cannot still get good money next season.

I thought that. If he comes back and we somehow pony up money for Bruce this team will steam roll through the Central again.

Don't know where to put this, but Roy Halladay was killed in a plane crash

Yep, just saw this. Absolutely devastating news. Guy was a phenomenal pitcher and a better human.

Indians did add C Eric Haase to the 40 man roster which currently sits at 37. So now they have 4 catchers on their 40 man and it will likely stay that way with all four for the whole season.

That is really sad news there! Good player and good person. I was expecting to see him on the field again as a coach in due time :/

Speaking of Cs on the 40 man roster: what position has Mejia been playing in the AZL?

He is slated to split time between C and 3B. I am pretty sure him and Haase will split the C duties at AAA and to keep both in the lineup you may see either or both play 3rd and DH.

He's not slated to split time between positions in the AZFL.

When he's played in the field, he has only played at 3B...the results have not been very good to this point...but good lord can he hit.
