2017-2018 Around the NBA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Really have to stop using the Spurs as a comparison. What they've built is entirely unique in the NBA, to the point where no other team has been able to emulate it. We're talking about the best coach in basketball history, the greatest culture in sports history, one of the greatest players ever, and an ownership group that stays out of the way. They've also had one of the ten best players in the league every year for the last twenty years, sans a year or two toward the end of Duncan's run (when they probably had one or two top 25 players...).

Literally 28 other teams would love to have what they do, and I only leave the recent Warriors iteration out because of the cap jump that allowed them Durant.

Warrrios drafting second to none

Cavaliers drafting worst to none

Without 2 rotation pieces too, including a starter.

Someone said somewhere on this board that Memphis won't make the playoffs...couldn't believe someone wrote that. Conley and Gasol still there, they're deeper, younger, and more athletic.

Fizdale is a great coach too. Can see why LeBron hyped him up so much while he was in Miami.

So this is a good topic.

How have the Grizzlies remained so consistent while shuffling through coaches. Have all of them been good? Hollins, Joeger, Fiz?

Or are Marc Gasol and Mike Conley incredibly underrated, even during the times that it appeared they were both overrated?

I look at that roster and, to me, that shouldn't be a playoff roster. They have what is, by far, the worst contract in the league taking up a giant amount of cap space. They don't have a guy who will make an all-star team this year (Conley would in the East, but the West just has too many guards)..and still.

Ultimately I think we look back and conclude Gasol and Conley weren't appreciated enough. I'd say there's probably been more than one season Conley should have been considered a top 5 point guard because of how dominant he is on defense. But it will come with hindsight.

Otto Porter is being underrated for being a 3rd option, but he is by far better than Beal.

His progression reminds me of Jimmy Butler. Bad 1st season followed by big improvement each season in advanced stats and raw stats. Porter is a much better 3rd option than Butler though. Butler is going to be very much an afterthought on the Wolves.

I proposed trading Love for him last season.. would have loved him here.

He is going to be an high end star in his role.

Simmons looks more than fine on D. i don't understand why the media and fans thought otherwise.

He looks at his best next to Embiid, without Embiid in the lineup he looks much worse and Philly as a teaam look like lottery without Embiid.

I have a feeling that if he doesn't develop a reliable jump shot he is going to have problems in the playoffs against a good defensive scheme.

I wasn't really sure where to put it, but this is one of the weirder things I've ever seen. Why has Markelle Fultz forgotten how to shoot?

As a bonus, here's Fultz shooting threes: View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oj788Dd7_Es

You go find any number of mixtapes and highlight packages of Markelle from college where he's taking and making jumpers with ease. It was part of his appeal as the number one prospect. He was an extremely polished offensive player. Sure, his form wasn't perfect at the line, and the results could have been better, but what he's done to his form... it's a travesty, and it seems to have carried over to his shooting from all areas.

It's one of the more bizarre things I've ever seen, and if he's ruined his shot beyond repair, then he and the 76ers are in trouble.

The Sixers are rebuilding his shot, apparently. Haberstroh and Thorpe talked about this on the TBF pod. Basically, he's learning how to shoot all from scratch. Guessing what we're seeing now is the scratch itself.

That's ridiculous. His shot wasn't busted. His form may not have been perfect, but it was effective. I don't understand why the 76ers would do something like this.

Nothing to understand. 76ers are notorious for being shady and hiding medical information from the public and even their own players. It happened with Embiid a year before, Okafor and Noel.

The rumour is that he has a shoulder problem and and is restricted in arm elevation. I don;t know why they play him, but it's BC so you never know with this dude.

Regardless, looks like Fultz has some huge mental problems. Not sure this kid would be able to recover from that this season at least.

Trading that Lakers pick to jump to the 1st place with no consensus 1st pick was as stupid as it gets.. I said it in the summer and i'll continue saying that. They picked him because he was supposed to have a good outside shot to fit better iwth Simmons.. that really blew up in their faces ah?

Yea, this is a travesty. What were they thinking..

Wait, which is it? The yips or an injury? And if it's an injury, why is he able to extend his arm on layups and dunks?

Something just isn't adding up here.
