At this point, I think if there was an offer the Cavs were willing to take, the deal would be done

I think he's coming to camp at this a point unless somebody increases their offer substantially.

And I'm ok with it.

I'm with you. Any sub-optimal deal we make now has consequences with LBJ's situation and our ability to rebuild if he does bail. Also seems likely at some point (like happens every year) a disgruntled star(s) will become available by the deadline or into the summer, so why rush it.

Kyrie also has incentive to be a professional about it because of the DPE contract situation, that's ALOT of money and him sulking or tanking his play will only hurt his reputation and our ability to find a fair trade for him. He is a smart guy, so I think the risk of him coming to camp and being an ass about it are pretty low.

Exactly. Just be straight up with him. Like, hey Kyrie, if you would have told us the week before the draft, we could have traded you to the Clippers for Chris Paul, to the Pacers for Paul George, and maybe even to the Bulls for Jimmy Butler.

But, since you waited until all of those options were completely gone, and decided to leak a 4 team preferred list, we aren't getting the offers we want. So, we'll see you at camp. Let's go get another title..

@ anyone who knows: how much $ is at stake regarding the DPE?

Kyrie stands to lose a substantial amount if I remember correctly. ~around 45 million?

Add a smile, fist pump, a "Go get'em slugger"...and I think you may be on to something.

Yeah that sounds about right maybe even more by the time 2019 comes around.

Dude is making a childish mistake imo asking out RIGHT NOW. If he waits, signs the extension then forces his way out he makes his money and gets to actually pick his team because with 1 year left on his contract we'll be screwed. That also gives him one more shot at a ring against GS.

Curry almost 30.
Kyrie barley 25.

Guess why people pick Curry over Kyrie, He actually tries on defense. If we traded Curry for Kyrie I feel with a healthy Rose we would kill the GS. Kyrie is fools gold, and maybe this whole thing was to get him to give a fuck again.

If fools gold helps end our drought, we need more fools gold on the roster.

Any combo of LBJ or Irving on the GSW equals GSW losing in 4 or 5.

GSW got KD because Irving & James were too much for them. So Curry on a lesser team would help us kill GSW? Makes perfect sense...He had superior team and could not win, Cavs were only a two headed monster. GSW were a record breaking and all around better team than us in 2016; James and Irving just played on another level.

Remember what happened when Irving did not play last finals?.....Yea......

Suppose it depends on whose word you take. I've read where the Cavs were shopping him before the draft.

Lot of suppositions being made on only a limited amount of public information. Let's hope these judgments react as quickly as new information is assimilated.

$70M on average -- could be more.

I don't think they were shopping him. May have discussed a trade or two involving him...
But for me, there's a difference between due diligence and shipping a guy.

This thing is what makes me angry.

I can't blame a player for wanting to leave. Its choice and all that, for whatever the reason may be.

But the timing. Just plain awful on his part. Completely rekt us.

The reason for the so-called bad timing is because if the Cavs ended up getting Paul George, Kyrie would be too excited about a title run to want out of Cleveland. The Cavs striking out and presumably having no chance against Golden State makes Kyrie think Lebron is leaving, which makes Kyrie think he has to leave first in case the Cavs don't want to lose both of them at the same time due to the hit on the franchise.

How do people not make a bigger deal about this?

Nobody walks away from 50-70mil.

I'm willing to bet he comes back, and in 2 years, signs the max with us THEN asks for a trade.

This is why I said in another thread that the Cavs could retain Irving if we're willing to make him the focal point of the team's offense. If he put up 22-23 FGA (I know that's a lot), played 36 MPG, and had at least 10 additional sets run with him as the primary playmaker generating a another 2 APG.. This would all but guarantee Irving making All-NBA, and with that many attempts, he'd very likely win scoring champ.

Do all those things and Irving gets the DPE next offseason and this becomes a distant memory.

Isn't that designated player extension reliant upon making the All-NBA team? or maybe I got it confused with something else, can somebody with more knowledge on this subject educate me?
