2017 Browns Regular Season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What is stopping the Browns from trading for wide receiver? They have cap space, a boat load of assets, and a clear need. There's no reason they should wait until the offseason to address it.

I am generally an advocate of the Browns front office but even I will admit, they have done a horrible job at structuring the team in the passing game thus far. The secondary and wide receiving corp are the worst positional groups in the league.

the organization has made it clear that winning games last year and this year were not going to be a priority. Gathering future picks was.

Theres no defending the receiving core. But as far as the secondary goes, I dont think they are talentless there. I think mccourty has been good, kindred has been good against the run, taylor has been alright, BBC has been really good other than today but he still made some solid plays today. Im still rooting for peppers to develop in basically a new position.

I still dont understand cutting haden. Its not like this team got anything but savings for it, but we have tons of cap space. Thats on the FO forsure.

I truly believe that the bad passing numbers has to do with williams playing 10 on 11 leaving the intermediate middle of the field open, especially when he blitzes.

Our talent at wide receiver is truly dismal and there is absolutely no excuse for how bad we are at that position. For that I can only blame the front office. It is their job to put talent on the field with some kind of a plan, with some kind of balance, with some kind of approach for being able to actually win football games. Te front office has left the toolbox bare in terms of skill players on offense.

They've taken care of the tight end position fairly well but they've ignored the wide receiver and slot receiver positions. They swung and missed on Britt, they put all their chips on the health of Coleman. That is a black mark on the front office and they need to figure out a way to address it.

Maybe they were secretly hoping for the return of Josh Gordon?

They traded for Collins last year who has helped anchor the defense. It's not like they're opposed to using assets to obtain guys with talent like Collins and Njoku. I just don't understand why they haven't devoted more attention to the position. Colemon and Britt were not a big enough investment. You can find depth with those late round picks and undrafted free agents but not often do you find starters.

Hue is going to need talented receivers for his offense to succeed. He had AJ Green, Marvin Jones, and Mohamed Sanu back when he was with the Bengals. The Browns don't have anything to close to that lineup.

@Jack Brickman I don't think Duke Johnson has the build to be a running back in the NFL. I'd like to see him used more as a wide receiver and them to get the ball to him in open space.

It was incredibly hard watching him take a beating while Crowell seems totally unfazed by the same kind of hits.

Getting ready
Has there been any news on Gordon apply to comeback? Is there a deadline? Do we have a good chance he even gets back?

Would love to see Flash back. He's needed so badly.

I had two updates on my phone via Score Mobile about the Browns wanting to add talent before the deadline Tuesday.

Anyone have the full story?

This logic is flawed IMO.

They've literally drafted four wide receivers, including one in the first round. They've signed a free agent on day 1 of free agency. They've traded for a WR. They've picked up two guys that were highly regarded off waivers.

They've addressed the position.

I'm not arguing that any of these guys are world beaters, but I've watched every single play of every single game on All-22 and guys get open.

They might not get WIDE open, but throwing windows are there. Kizer is simply too slow with his reads and doesn't have the anticipation to throw to guys that aren't wide open yet. Plus his accuracy is spotty when he actually does make the right read.

I generally agree that, ideally, he's not your every down workhorse back. He's a satellite back who you can put in for occasional run plays and you can also plug him in as your slot receiver.

The issue is that he's so clearly better than Crowell that I think he needs to be getting more of Crowell's reps. If we had a better back, I wouldn't be opposed to Duke becoming the receiving down back and spending other downs in the slot.

I do think that Hue needs to figure out better ways to get Duke involved regardless, though, because he's so clearly our best offensive player right now. When you've got a guy who makes positive contributions damn near every time he gets the ball, you need to get him the ball more fucking often.

Give Dayse the ball more.
