2017 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
538 likes us over Bama.

Think how we look against Wiscy could matter a lot. If we win but look shitty we may be left out.

Clemson vs. Miami (FL)
Both teams have one loss, and neither loss is good (Clemson vs. Syracuse and Miami vs. Pitt). Miami is the current second seed in the CFP, Clemson is third. I really do feel like this is an elimination game either way, but I'm going to root for Miami to be safe here.

Auburn vs. Georgia
Definitely want Georgia to win this one. Auburn would have three losses and be gone. Auburn winning would leave us with an SEC pallet of:
- Alabama (11-1); loss to SEC Champion Auburn
- Auburn (11-2); SEC Champion w/ losses @ Clemson & @ LSU -- not a horrible resume
- Georgia (11-2); SEC runner-up w/ two losses to SEC Champ Auburn

Oklahoma vs. TCU
Definitely want TCU to snag this game somehow. Would pretty much eliminate Oklahoma at this point in the season.

Ohio State vs. Wisconsin
Self explanatory. Have to win, and have to win big.

Only other team in the mix is Alabama, and with no chance at a conference championship, a weak resume, and a loss to the only good team they've played all year, I really hope the committee is soured on them.

If everything goes according to my plan:
- ACC Championship game: Miami beats Clemson; Miami IN; Clemson OUT
- SEC Championship game: Georgia beats Auburn; Georgia IN; Auburn OUT
- B12 Championship game: TCU beats Oklahoma; Oklahoma OUT; TCU OUT
-
B10 Championship game: Ohio State beats Wisconsin; Wisconsin OUT

If this exact scenario happens, I think Ohio State sneaks in.
1) Miami (FL)
2) Georgia
3) Alabama
4) Ohio State
5) Auburn
6) Clemson
7) TCU
8) Oklahoma
9) Wisconsin

Most important for me at least is Georgia beating Auburn and TCU beating Oklahoma. The ACC game is probably an elimination either way.

Agreed with all of this except rooting for Miami over Clemson.....I don't get that.

I don't want a 2 loss Clemson team who beat us by 30 last year, also in the pool of teams with OSU.

Let Clemson win, eliminate Miami, and we go into a pissing contest with Bama and hopefully Oklahoma.

I originally thought an OU win would bolster our chances, but 538 absolutely disagrees so I'll go with them.....reluctantly.

Part of me still wonders if an OU win bolsters our resume a bit, and we'd just prefer going head to head with Bama with as much ammo as possible.

Oklahoma
Clemson
Georgia
OSU

I see where 538 comes from with potentially leaving Big 12 out if TCU wins but how does OU get left out after beating OSU in the Shoe.

Will be a fun weekend.....

I understand wanting TCU over Oklahoma, but my instinct tells me we want Oklahoma. TCU as a 2 loss champ could jump us. A 2 loss Oklahoma could stay ahead. I think we want Oklahoma.

Even if OU loses I have a hard time believing they drop past 6, and depending on how the other cards fall a 2 loss OU team still gets in. They have one hell of a damn resume with wins in the horse shoe, in Stillwater, and against TCU.

i think wisconsin wins, Clemson wins, and Georgia wins. I think alabama is the worst 1 loss team, and would even put them behind some of the 2 loss teams.

Also terrified of OU having to play TCU again. TCU shutout OU in the second half of the first game, and I felt like a couple of lucky breaks went the sooners way that turned what should have been a close game into a blowout.

Yeah...I'm rooting for Georgia, Clemson, Oklahoma.

So what's everyone's predictions tonight on the rankings? Here's mine:

1. Clemson
2. Oklahoma
3. Wisconsin
4. Auburn
5. Georgia
6. Alabama
7. Miami FL
8. Ohio State

These are the only teams left with a shot at getting in (sorry TCU and USC). Clemson/Oklahoma at 1 and 2 could be interchangeable. Wisconsin is undefeated and should be at 3. Auburn, even with the two losses, with the H2H wins over Georgia and Alabama should be 4 with Georgia and Alabama right behind. The committee favored Georgia over Alabama early when neither had a loss, now both have one and to the same team, so it should be Georgia at 5 and Bama at 6. Miami coming off a bad loss drops to 7, and obviously OSU with two losses sits at 8.

I truly think that the ACC, SEC, and B1G championship games should be treated as play-ins. And the only way Alabama should get in is if Oklahoma loses to TCU. As previously mentioned Alabama just doesn't have the resume a non-conference winner should have to get in.

Yeah, I got the same predictions for tonight. Maybe Wiscy & Auburn are flipped.

As for the final rankings, I think a lot will depend on not just who wins, but who looks the best doing so.

Tonight should be really interesting. I can't wait to hear what Hocutt has to say about Alabama vs Ohio State because, if OSU wins, that is what it's going to come down to. And I think we have a pretty good shot provided we don't look like shit against Wiscy.

And I don't care what 538 or anyone says, I'm rooting for Oklahoma. I want this to simply be OSU vs Bama for the final spot. Throwing Oklahoma into that mix just makes things more complicated, in a bad way, for Ohio State.

Agreed, I'm most interested in Hocutt's comments on OSU and Alabama, and specifically just OSU. I doubt he would come out and say they have zero chance regardless of what happens, or that they're a huge long shot, but it'll be interesting to see how much they show their cards.

Playoff or not, I'll be happy with a B1G championship. Especially seeing in a lot of bowl projections that if OSU loses to Wisconsin they'll end up as the last NY6 at-large team and playing either UCF or Memphis. I don't want that. I can live with them being B1G Champs, missing out on the playoff, but playing USC, Miami/Clemson loser, Auburn/Georgia loser in one of the Orange/Fiesta/Chick-Fil-A Bowls. The worst part of this scenerio would be obviously Alabama would get the last spot in the playoff... which is frustrating as all fuck that OSU beating Wisconsin would essentially be what gets them in.

Taking the Buckeyes -7 this weekend. Wisconsin's defense played one of the softest schedules in the country. The average offense was #101 and the best offenses the Badgers faced this year were Florida Atlantic, Utah State and Nebraska. Ohio State comes in as the #9 offense in the country. I believe we see a Buckeye double digit win this weekend which should help the voters.

I think we win this weekend but I don't think we are washing the stink of a 30 point loss to Iowa off. I'm okay with that.

Last thing I want is to squeak in with controversy just like every year we get in, and then get smoked again. I'll never hear the end of that shit.

I think most general fans would be okay with it -- because it'd be Alabama that was getting left out. If it was any other school the pitchforks would be out. But people won't care if it's Alabama getting the short end of the stick.

Yeah, good point. At least I hope. Either way if by some miracle we get in, we better show up.

Right now I'm just nervous for Saturday.

Me too considering nobody on this team can cover a TE and that's all Wiscy throws to when they pass. I honestly think we need a scheme change. Because if these LBs play like they have all season (extremely shitty), we will lose.

Yeah, I'm not underestimating Wisconsin. I haven't seen them a ton this year, I'll admit, but they look like they will be very formidable. This strikes me as a grind it out, close, probably low scoring game although it's inside so Ohio State may spread out its superior athletes and throw all over the field and I'll be totally off base.

Just don't know which Buckeye team shows up. They came out flatter than a nun's nipple in The Game, which was embarrassing. They woke up but it showed me no game is too big for them to come out looking like ass.
