Honestly I'd be a bit superstitious drawing the Twins; the 2002 A's season was ended by the Twins in the ALDS after having their streak broken by KC...
Meh...

They have Gibson going game 1 for them (we are 3-0)and Berrios would be game 2 (0-1, but the lose came in early May). After that, I don't care if we face Santana or any other schlub they have to throw at us. Id be shocked if it wasn't a sweep.

NY, as I stated last week, could give us some headaches. There pitching is pretty damn deep and they have some young guys that can hit. Even if Severino goes tonight, Gray and Sabathia in G1 & G2 is nothing to scoff at.

I think you could pull a best of 3 round pretty easily. You just have to be flexible with time. You do a 1-1-1. First game is afternoon game. Second game happens evening of the following day, third day off, 4th day game 3. 5th day (sunday) you play the 1 seed.

The 2 seed v 3 seed round starts either day 3 or day 4 and there is an extra game off at some point.

Problem is they will never do that to a team, have them start the next series the day after finishing the previous one.

Format is all about what could happen. What happens if Boston is awaiting the winner of a Seattle vs Oakland Wild Card series that goes 3 games? You think it would be fair for Seattle or Oakland to have to fly clear across the country after a 3 game series and play the next night?

Baseball doesn't do that to its teams in the post season, because it doesn't want to give teams advantages with regards to rest. Why they don't play on travel days in the post season, but don't give a shit about travel days in the regular season.

It doesn't matter what format they choose to go, someone will always be unhappy. The 1 game series at least keeps things moving quickly for everyone else, and has the season ending early enough.

The only alternative Wild Card proposal out there that remotely interests me is one brought up by Ken Rosenthal in The Athletic today:
Travis Sawchik of The Athletic recently wrote on Fangraphs about the two-game, wild-card round used by the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO); the higher seed needs to win only one game to advance, while the lower seed must win two. Joel Sherman of the New York Post expanded the concept, arguing for the wild-card round to remain one game only if the participants finished within four games of each other; otherwise, the round would follow the Korean format, giving the superior team the edge yet preserving drama for the networks.

Still, I like the current "win or go home" scenario best.

That proposed format is interesting, especially being that the Twins and Rockies were significantly behind (6 GB) the Yankees and D'Backs. But agree with you, the 1 game is still better.

If they want to do something that can potentially add more games the the wildcard, they have to either start the season earlier, or go back to 154 game seasons. Can’t see them doing either.

And even then, as a fan of a team who won their division, I would not like that my team is potentially waiting a week to play.

Then game 3 starts in the afternoon, just like game 1

Just to be clear I like the 1game playoff, but the details for a 3 game series are workable.

And you'll still have people saying the team that has to travel to play the next day is at a disadvantage.

Like I said, no matter what they do with the added Wildcard game, someone will always complain.

Unless they take away the 2nd Wildcard team (yeah right, $$$), someone will always be mad.

For those of you that like the current format, how do you justify the mlb playoffs coming down to 1 game after playing 162?

They're offering a free preview... Unless you have Spectrum like me
Yep. Those Spectrum fucks have a monopoly on downtown Columbus. I can't get anything else.

People have already said that...

Want to play more post season games? Play better in the regular season and win your division.

Because of the excitement and intensity of of the game, especially in a crapshoot like baseball where anything can happen. I'll hate it any year the Indians find themselves in the game, but love it otherwise.

Giants beat the Mets last year in the Top of the 9th. EE hits a walk off HR for the Jays after Showalter left Britton to rot in the bullpen. The 2014 A's/Royals game was one of the most exciting baseball games I've ever seen. Pirates fans chanting "Cuetoooooo, Cuetoooo" and then seeing him drop the ball on the mound. The infield fly call in Chipper Jones's last game.

All very memorable games in super high stakes games.

I personally think 5 game series are too short.

However, I don't think MLB is planning on going the NBA route and making everything 7 games. To do that, you'd have to lengthen the season, and in too many places, the weather pre-April or post October isn't baseball weather.

They also can't just have a handful of teams make the playoffs every year. If 2/3rd of the league is out of the playoff race by July 4th, that's terrible for the league.

So then need a decent amount of teams but don't want the playoffs to run too long. So a 1 game playoff and a 5 game series are necessary evils. I don't think they are the best ways to go, but I see why MLB does it this way.
