The only reason I don't like it is the potential narratives it creates if the Indians drop game 1.

The team will be inundated with second guessing and I'm not sure why you introduce that dynamic on a team that just won the most games in the AL?

This strikes me as just trying to be a little too cute. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't.....I just don't get why we're rocking the boat here, even if many think it is inconsequential.

Strongly disagree with Tito's desicion here...It's like sitting Lebron in game 1 of the finals and starting R Jefferson instead
That would be like sitting Jose for Gonzalez.

This situation is nothing like that.

Not surpised that Urshela made it.

With Kipnis and Chisenhall back, Bruce added, and Brantley on board as PH, Tito clearly felt like the lineup could carry Gio's bat and that his all game defensive improvements over Yandy would be a net positive.

-Brantley makes it as a PH
-Allen for pinch running
-When/if Urshela gets PH for, Gonzalez is the sturdier defensive replacement than Yandy would have been

Would have preferred to have one of Goody or Otero make it, but I get the reasoning and the flexibility.

Kluber is historically good and Carrasco is extremely good. You're talking about the best pitcher in the game and probably the third best pitcher in the American League here. You want to be in a position where your two best guys can both start twice if they absolutely have to.

There's a few concerns with Cookie that I am sure came up.

Cookie has never started on less than normal rest in his career. Not once. He's also never pitched in the post season, and is coming off a season in which he logged the most IP in his career. As good as he is, I don't think they feel comfortable pushing him out there on short rest, since they've never seen it before.

I think they trust Bauer more in a short rest start than they do Carrasco, and that's why you are seeing Bauer starting early. Though I'd have Kluber going game 1 and Bauer game 2 if I decided on that.

2, the "Tomlin available out of the pen in games 1-3" mention tells me that game 4 start isn't set in stone. I'd imagine if we found ourselves down 2-1, you probably see Bauer start game 4 since he is the best equipped for a short turnaround.

Deep down in your heart, do you truly believe Bauer is better equipped to start a game on three days rest down 2-1 than Kluber?

I understand Bauer has a rubber arm, but if I'm facing elimination, I want my best guy on the mound.

For what it's worth, Bauer made one start on short rest in the playoffs last year and gave up 6 hits and 3 runs in 4 innings.

Kluber made three starts on short rest, two of them were good and the third one he ran out of gas.

TFW you basketball but you was supposed to baseball.

Read above in my response to you...if that was the thought process, to have Bauer leap Cookie so he could start on short rest potentially, I'd have had Kluber going in game 1, so he can be used potentially in game 4 down 2-1.

But I understand the idea to not have Cookie go 2 games in this series.

Carrasco wouldn't have to start on short rest though. I'm not making that argument whatsoever. I'm saying by starting Carrasco in Game 3, you're guaranteeing that he will only make 1 start in a 5 game series. To me, setting up your rotation to where a 5.5 WAR starter only pitches once is just overthinking it, home/road splits be damned.

What I would have done, is start Kluber in Game 1, thus making him available to pitch in Game 4 on three days rest if the Indians absolutely need it. Carrasco then starts Game 2 and then if it ends up going 5, he's available on full rest in Game 5 if Kluber goes in Game 4.

Asking because I truly don't know: Was that start pre or post Drone?

The only alternative Wild Card proposal out there that remotely interests me is one brought up by Ken Rosenthal in The Athletic today:

Still, I like the current "win or go home" scenario best.
My off the wall, Asian idea: Two game series at the higher seeds ballpark. You take the team with the higher run differential after the two games. If it's tied then it goes to extra innings in the second game. After 15 innings, it goes to a best of 3 arm wrestling match.
