Salazar, Allen, Brantley, E. Gonzalez make the roster

Interesting.

I guess Game 4 (if necessary) will hopefully have Tomlin getting through the lineup twice and then a quick hook for Clevinger/Salazar. I understand Game 4 starter is "subject to change" and if the bullpen is fresh, could see Clevinger get the start here (1.13 ERA in final six appearances on the season).

Concern is that Twins and Yankees both murder the typical slop that Tomlin throws (0.867 and 0.847 OPS, respectively, against "finesse" pitchers)

What a disaster.

Francona badly overthinking this.

I think this is a bit of an overreaction for someone who claims to be in "Super Chill Mode" :chuckle:

I dig everything but Tomlin. Tito really believes in him.

This is the single worst decision in franchise history and the franchise is likely doomed for many years to come because of it

Strongly disagree.

Game 1 we are likely facing someone's number 2 pitcher. Bauer can handle that.

Game 2 we will have have Kluber on an extra day of rest

Game 3 Cookie takes the hill where he is 11-2 on the road with an opponents batting average of .210

If necessary, you can live with Tomlin for a few innings and then bring in the bullpen.

Edit: If it somehow goes 5, you have Kluber on a regular schedule to pitch.

Relax a little.

1, the series is over if we win game 1 based on this rotation. And it's not like Bauer sucks, especially against the 2 teams we are going to see 1 of (5-1 with a 2.95 ERA in 6 starts vs NYY and Minny this season).

2, the "Tomlin available out of the pen in games 1-3" mention tells me that game 4 start isn't set in stone. I'd imagine if we found ourselves down 2-1, you probably see Bauer start game 4 since he is the best equipped for a short turnaround.

3, this puts Carrasco in line to start against the opposing teams ace, which I like, and on the road, which I also like.

Going short on the relief arms is a bit of a surprise. Then again, we have Salazar & Clevinger in the pen if need be. Gonzalez is a bit of a surprise. Im guessing they want to see what they have in the outfield early on while guys are healthy. I expect changes to the ALCS roster.

Whether it works or not, it’s still a decision that just lacks common sense.

Kluber is historically good and Carrasco is extremely good. You're talking about the best pitcher in the game and probably the third best pitcher in the American League here. You want to be in a position where your two best guys can both start twice if they absolutely have to.

Francona, unfortunately, has made a decision that means the Indians could be eliminated from the postseason with their historically great pitcher only starting 1 time and their extremely good 3rd best pitcher in the league only starting one time regardless.

I don't give a shit if they sweep every game 10-0, that is just not a decision that has a lot of common sense.

The ONLY way this is acceptable is if Kluber went to Francona and told him that he unequivocally did not want five days of rest between games 1 and 5.

Not having him available for a potential short rest start in a down 2-1 scenario is just ridiculous.

Agree with this 100%.

Just realized we had 5 10+ wins pitchers.

Strongly disagree with Tito's desicion here...It's like sitting Lebron in game 1 of the finals and starting R Jefferson instead
