2017 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lol at moving Gomes to first.

That's funny.

Toronto had Gomes playing 1st, 3rd, LF and RF. He originally was drafted as a C/Infielder and is a very good athlete overall. He essentially was a throw in since Toronto didn't need him because he was behind their two top prospect catchers.

There is some stats on him that actually back up what I am talking about by the way. Moving Gomes from C, is semi-dumb because of the fact he is a very good defensive catcher and has value there, but it not something that is completely out of the question if it comes to Mejia's future especially this or next September by getting him some reps at the big leagues and Gomes some rest from the wear and tear of catching.

Dang Coach goes hard here... All information aside yeah I do not see Gomes ever seeing First Base as an option for a good three more years until he has to or is no longer a name.

The question is, what do we do when Mejia is ready for the pros? I am sure we could easily trade Gomes/Perez in due time since teams always need solid defensive catchers.

Teams move players out from behind the plate when they want to keep their bat in the lineup.

Maybe we'll move David Robertson to shortstop once Guyer and Brantley come back too.

1B needs to produce at the plate. Yan doesn't produce enough at the plate to be a 1B.

Most likely scenario is he is traded to a franchise with young/inexperienced starting pitching in the middle of a rebuild once he is another year closer to his team options, when Mejia is ready (if he is still with us too).

Gomes He was their 3rd ranked catching prospect in the organization and 5th on the depth chart in the Blue Jays organization hence why we got him so cheaply in a trade cause they didn't have a spot for him. He was hitting .328 when they called him up the year before we got him, but hit .204 when he got called up. That was the only reason why he got a call up I am pretty sure. Gomes was an extra guy to the Blue Jays

Who cares?

See above.

Damn. I'm slacking, huh?? Presco or something? He looked good. Ummm, threw alot of strikes. But not really. Like I said I was with some girl and we actually got seats way up high under the roof In case it rained. And we were behind the plate. Is he a top prospect?

Francisco Perez.

19 year old LHP, throws mid 90s, still developing his off speed. Good chance he's a top 20 prospect in the Indians farm following this season.

Hoping to catch him live this summer at some point.

I am thinking he will be traded as well, but do we keep him at 1st and whatnot as a stop gap until Bradley/Nellie is ready though? Something tells me Brantley may not like a move to 1st base so I am wondering if he would do it in 18 or not.

No. Brantley will have to play 1B soon enough, if he wants to stick on this franchise. He's just not good in the OF anymore, and his last 2 injuries are from playing in the OF. Not to mention all the OFs on the cusp of making it to the bigs on the farm, including ones with cups of coffee like Naquin. If the Indians extend him after next season, he's getting moved to 1B or DH just to protect the investment on his bat and keep it in the lineup, kind of like Minny and Joe Mauer.

Yan at 1B would be a huge disadvantage offensively, and we are looking to compete still with our pitching staff and young core locked up for a while...it would make sense if we were going to go through rebuild any time soon, but I wouldn't expect that.

Also, Encarnacion can play 1B if need be, if they want to target an old vet who can still hit, but can't play the field anymore. And it isn't a given Santana leaves just yet...

Also x2...this franchise isn't bridging a gap to Nellie Rodriguez any time soon.

I am really doubting we will keep Brantley past his contract being up before the 19 season. I think in 19, we may have a short rebuilding year to compete again and I think we can stay competitive as well going forward as long as guys like Allen, Diaz, Bradley and the other prospects reach their potentials.

Losing Chisenhall, Brantley and almost all the bullpen in 19 we will have to make some moves. I would also think with Gomes his batting average will go up if he is moved from catcher, but in a way that would be a waste of talent since he is a very solid catcher even if his batting numbers aren't amazing. I am hoping the stretch Bradley has been doing at AA keeps going and he found a swing that he can take into the pros so he can take 1st in 19. I just mentioned Nellie since hopefully him or Bradley can show up and take the reigns at 1st.

If everything stays the same until 2019 they could really be screwed.

Why would you move your below average hitting, elite defensive catcher to 1B?

The guy has hit .237 over the past 3 years. He's not suddenly going to become a good hitter just because of less daily wear and tear.
