2017 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Would be number 1 if they were positive Mejia is a catcher?

That is pretty exciting stuff right there. One of the top bats in all of the minors just happens to be a catcher? Our catcher?

Cant wait to see him in 1.5 years in the show.

Carlos Santana once had such things said about him. Not that he turned into a bad player, but I'll believe it when I see it. Good to know we have a couple guys to look forward to in the next few years, though.

Bimbo, you're missing from the Padres series thread. Could really use your analysis in there.

Lucroy really screwed the Brewers

Depends on how you view Brinson and Ortiz as prospects, and how much value you put into the positions of the prospects involved in both trades.

Even the PTBNL they got in that deal is slashing .284/.349/.506 in AAA for them.

Lucroy really saved the Indians, IMO. Not only would we not have Mejia, Chang, Allen, and Armstrong, but we may have been the ones who are looking to sell low on a soon to be free agent C who can't catch anymore after giving away our best prospect for him just a year earlier.

Sure Rangers fans don't feel good looking at Brinson's .338/.411/.580 slash in AAA, while providing plus defense in all 3 OF spots, especially after watching Lucroy catch a terrible game and go 0-4...

Yeah, we defintely dodged a bullet and thank goodness. Meija may be a cornerstone, we just don't know yet.

With all this said, in a World Series that was so close, Lucroy could have been the difference.

People remember Roberto's home runs in Game 1 vs Boston and Chicago, but other than those 2 games he gave us absolutely nothing at the plate in the playoffs.

Perez in 43 post season ABs:

.186/.300/.419, 3 HRs, 7 RBI, 7 BB

Lucroy in 44 post season ABs:

.200/.205/.295, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 0 BB, 10 K

No...he would not have been the difference. Dude shrunk big time for Texas against Toronto, to the tune of a .083/.083/.083 slash.

Highly doubt he provides more than the .833 OPS Perez gave us in the World Series.

Except he didnt stick at C... but yes... he's been a solid player. Not elite.

He didn't stick at C cause of what happened to him in 2010. Also, Santana wasn't a full time catcher in the minors. Played 3B and 2B the majority of his first few years as a pro with the Dodgers.

Mejia is and will be a C. Has defensive traits Santana only dreamed he had. Not sure why Baseball Prospectus is questioning his size and skills to play the position.

Lol bringing up his postseason stats from 6 years ago? Super relevant. Also nice of you to include Lucroy's 10 Ks but exclude Roberto's 15.

Yeah he stunk big time is that whopping 3 game, 12 at bat sample size.

I hate the guy too but let's not just pretend like he was chopped liver last year.

I'm not hating on the guy at all.

Great player.

Just laughing at the idea that he could have swung the World Series in a different direction. Unless he became a top of the rotation pitcher, it wouldn't have mattered.

Is it really ridiculous to think the guy who hit .292 last year and is a career .282 hitter may have done better than our catching platoon?

Perez and Gomes combined for 4-24 in the WS and went 0-6 in Games 5 and 7, which were decided by a run each. And not to nitpick more, but Perez had an RBI single in the 9th of Game 6, when we were down 7. Again, he was fantastic in Game 1, but he didn't do anything else for us in 2-7. No one can say for sure what may or may not have happened, but I sure would have preferred to see Lucroy in those games.

We were giving up way too much for Lucroy without a doubt. That would have been one of the worst trades for a small market team like th Indians to have done. If we truly needed a catcher then yeah maybe the deal would have been alright, but I couldn't merit trading Mejia and Allen who are on my no trade list for prospects.

Allen to me could be like a lofton style of player and we all know we need a lead off guy. His injury this season put him back a bit but I expect in 19 to see him here in the pros. Mejia (whether or not the scouting report is right) is one of the surest bet players we have in the system to make the pros. I've actually got to see him in person and we had no reason even thinking about trading the kid.

@BimboColesHair, We may actually never see Colon pitch again for the Indians since he has been suspended for a full season. I wouldn't even worry about updated his stats cause of the suspension. Who is your surprises in good ways and surprises in bad ways for the minors this season so far for you? You get a chance to actually watch a fair amount of these guys.
