Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Free helped saved basketball in Cleveland:

“I remember when I was first traded from the Golden State Warriors to the Cleveland Cavaliers, they had like 1,500 people, fans, at the Richfield Coliseum [for games] because the franchise was in turmoil. And they were getting ready to sell the franchise to some other city, and I was a big part of helping them keep basketball alive in the city of Cleveland. I was one of the guys who was a big part of that, and that’s always stuck with me. It’s also probably one of the longer tenured teams I’ve stayed with in my career.”

“Then when we made the playoffs that year [1984-85] with George Karl [as coach], then the fans started to turn out. It was unbelievable. It went from 1,500 to sellout crowds with the playoff appearance that year. It brought basketball back to Cleveland.”

“So when they won it, I felt a part of that. Even though I had nothing to do with them winning the championship [this season], I feel like I played a big part in keeping the team in the city.”

World remains my favorite cav of all time. During that time period of Stepiens ownership it was such a mess I though the team might really move at some point.
Wish we had the forum around at that time,,,I remember all the crazy trades,,,Geoff Huston,,etc...There weren't a lot of cavs fans around for me to commiserate with.

That 1984-85 team is my all-time favorite Cavalier team. 2-19 to start the season and then they went on an incredible run to make the playoffs. Beaten the first two games in Boston by a total of 5 points (and the officiating was worth more than that to Boston) -- then we won by 7 at home (Bird sat). We lost Game 4 by two points. We actually outshot the Celtics (!) but they lived at the FT line. (We were called for FORTY fouls in Game 4 -- three players fouled out, four more had 5 fouls. Brutal).

I was lucky enough to meet George Karl before the following season -- he was tending bar at the Tavern of Richfield. Very few fans showed up (less than 10) so I had a chance to speak with him for a bit. He said that his plan for Game 5 was to not guard Danny Ainge at all.

George fell out with Harry Weltman that next season but his coaching in 1984-85 was unbelievable. I still don't know how that team competed late in the year and the playoffs like they did -- even watching them live.

World deserves every bit of credit that he claims. The Cavaliers were practically dead by the time Stepien was done, but Gund and Weltman and Karl and players like World and Hinson and Hubbard and Bagley and Ben freaking Poquette brought us back.

Man I loved World (dont call me Floyd) B Free, he was one of my all time favorites. Never met a shot he didn't like. One of the few posters I had in my room growing up was of him.

But, you can call him 'Lloyd'!

Zion banged up tonight, never saw a shoe explode before.
Barrett is a really nice player. I’ll take Zion.

An amazing story of resilience. Kind of emblematic of the Cavaliers as a franchise.

It's probably hard to tell, but how many impact players are in this draft class?

Man, reading this site lately, I thought I’d check the standings and see the Cavs in the 8th or 9th slot of the lottery standings.

Nope. Third worst. Almost zero chance of finishing any higher than 4th worst.

People are acting like this is last year when we had the 8th slot and old odds on lottery night.

They sure don't look all that bad. They are getting confident. Cedi and Ante are playing really well. Collin had an ok games, but had been coming along nicely recently.

Work Kevin back they look competent. They may finish pretty strong. I'm interested to see if they can beat any good teams. The other tanking teams are pretty clearly worse

I would expect them to keep Love on a pretty strict minutes restriction for the remainder of the season with regular games off thrown in as well.

The Suns

The Cavs don't need Love to beat bad crap like the Suns.
