2018-2019 Tank Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Good Houston loss last night. Need Utah and San Antonio to pick it up tonight. I just don’t see our own pick worth worrying about since NYK and Suns are not going to let us pass them. Chicago worries me but need the Houston pick to get better.

The Suns

The Cavs don't need Love to beat bad crap like the Suns.

Quite probably, guys like Delly, Nwaba and Nance keep the tank somewhat honest. The Suns are like the mascot for how awful tanking culture can be, despite years of high picks they don't look as if they are developing any sort of team culture other than no defense and chucking.

Being a veteran, competitive player must make playing on tanking teams an awful experience, utterly worthless basketball being played.

I hate tanking and the necessity of it, there should never be an incentive to lose in professional sports.

I think the Suns do have a strategy though. They're loading up on wings and lack a true PG. They are forcing their players to move the ball and develop as ball handlers/passers. Ball handling and the vision to pass is usually what wing players lack and what separates them from being just starters/rotation player to being a star or near all-star player. I could see the Suns making a decent jump when they get a top tier PG via the draft, trade, or free agency.

We might be able to put together more effective basketball than the Suns but they have cleared the way so there is no choice but to develop young players. The Cavs should really be putting the ball into Cedi and Sexton's hands as much as possible so they can develop. Guys like Love and Knight should be used to space and put the young players into position to succeed. Featuring Love or letting Knight handle the ball is just taking opportunities away from Cedi and Sexton to grow and learn.

If Cedi, Sexton, or Zizic are on the floor, every play that is called should involve them in some fashion for the rest of the season. If the young guys are not scoring, assisting on scoring, or helping to create a play with a screen or some sort of movement, I'd say it a wasted opportunity and isn't really helping us get better for the future.

Lmao Kevin love impacting winning?

In the three games he's been back and has played 15 minutes or more, the Cavs have won all three, and he's been an addition in the plus/minus category every game. Course in the game thread, now you are just whining that he's affecting the tank. LOL.

This team will clearly make a jump next year especially if everyone can stay healthy. I think that is paramount to why we need to get the best draft pick possible. We might be looking at losing our pick next year and just being a treadmill team for a long time if we don't get a very good player in this draft.

Hard choices about what we do with Love then comes into the equation. Trade Love and drop back into the tank to get another shot at the lottery or keep Love try to make a run for the playoffs but without the ceiling of a contender.

Even just Sexton, Cedi, Zizic, Delly, Nwaba, Nance and two first round picks will be good enough to keep us out of the bottom of the barrel next year.

I'm of the opinion that adding two good wing players to this team would make all the difference in the world. Knight and Clarkson, were a combined 4-16 from the field for 9 points. Not next year but the year after the Cavs should have cleared enough cap space they can sign a high priced free agent to go with the core they have put together.

Based on this year plus the past three drafts it should take about 36 wins to hit 11 in the lottery (outside the top 10). Not counting the remote possibility that a team in the 11-14 spots could move up to top 4, what are the odds that we lose our pick next year? Very low IMO. Thus, I really don't think we need to clean house of good players (Love, TT) in order to avoid losing the pick. Now, if we get a real sweetheart deal, then sure, but not just 20-something picks that may convey in a year or two.

Maybe Kevin will “bruise his shoulder” and miss a bunch more games. Or we can put him on a chipotle-only diet so he can have chronic diarrhea until the season is over.

Boom - you keep Kevin while losing more games.

I should be a GM.

Add RJ Barrett to that young core and that would be amazing. I would be extremely happy with the second pick in this draft.

Getting a high ceiling SG/SF to pair with Cedi should make a big difference. It will be real interesting what Koby does in the summer. We have 10 guaranteed contracts plus two first round picks. If we trade JR we will get at least one more guaranteed contract back. Then we probably want to resign Nwaba and Chriss. Do we need Frye around for veteran presents.

I was hoping we could make a couple small signings for a guy like Furkan Kormack using our exceptions but it seems we will have to move TT, Henson, or Knight in the summer to do that.
