2018 Browns Free Agent Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That is all possible within the cap space and everything else we have.

I mean, yes. From a cap perspective that is possible (in year 1). From a reality standpoint, it is not.

Johnson is plausible to sign since his best season was with Williams. Boston is looking for a good paying long term deal. Robinson is a solid free agent WR and will go where he is considered a top option. Burton is looking for more playing time and we could easily see two TEs on the field at all times

I'm aware all of these players are free agents. There are 31 other teams in the league. You're not getting all of them.

If we trade down from one twice and draft Sutton, we will likely have two more draft picks in the second round. Getting 2 RBs like Guice and Michel isnt going to be hard and then with the other two second round picks we may be able to get Kirk and Reid.

I am sincerely saying something we can actually do. The front office got a ton of cap space available and a ton of assets in the draft. That possible roster is actually plausible at the end of the day. IF you don't believe me, crunch the numbers since they are there.

It's not.

The idea of Kirk is tempting, because I really do think we could be a Wild Card team next year with him. After two seasons of piss poor football, the very idea of playing meaningful games in December has me interested. But that is short term.

If Rosen or Darnold can be developed and become our franchise QB a year or two down the road, I'd much much rather have that.

Spending all of our cap space this offseason will cause us to go into decline in 3 years when we have to pay our own rookies.

We have 115 mill in cap space, this is before anyone retiring like Thomas or cutting any vets (do we even have any left?)

We should not spend more than 60 mill of that cap space. Next offseason 30 mill, then we will need to start signing our own free agents.

Yes i like the idea of signing Kirk, but lts not go crazy and overpay an entire team in free agency which is essentially what you will be doing. Build through the draft, use free agency to bring in depth

So yes, Kirk, 2 average LB's, a corner and a safety, a wr and maybe a rb. But lets not go crazy, sign average but solid free agents plus Kirk. Hope our rookies are better, Grodon found salvation, and coleman gets robotic hands that dont break.

I just don’t see how Alex Smith (who I really like and would agree he’s a great bridge QB) makes any sense for the 2018 Cleveland Browns ?

For the Bills, Broncos and Jags I can see it..However for a team/coach who doesn’t utilize a consistent running game (essential for Smith) or a short passing attack (essential for Smith) I just don’t see how he meshes with Hue in 2018 ?

Totally get he appreciates a veteran QB— I just don’t understand how if he wouldn’t do that for a rookie to put in the best possible situation to succeed - can’t see him doing so with Smith ?

I’m definitely on board with bringing him in (feel sorry for him and his career if they do) — just don’t really see the fit with what Hue does ?

KC isn't going to trade Alex Smith to DEN.

I know. But was just looking at fits for him with openings.. I don’t see either of the NY teams being a fit— Arizona probably slightly over the Browns but otherwise I don’t see much out there that would cater to what he needs to be successful outside of Den and Jax.. Even Buf is kind of a lateral move for their organization. Slightly better perhaps ?

Az is going to hire Pat Shurmer and he'll bring Case Keenum with him. JAX still has to make a decision on Bortles. he's due a $19M option. Plus Eli Manning seems to have the inside track for that job if he wants it. Alex Smith was destined to be our QB next year at least.

PIP getting worked over right now.

Girl please !

Don’t get me wrong. I’m completely fine with him as a Browns QB. I just don’t see it working?

We arent that far off from what we want.

I like Rosen, but you like him better.

You like Kirk, but I like him better.

I rather bring in a proven youngish qb, and if you kind of front load a long term contract, it allows you to use cap space in the future when we need it.

But that is our only differences on what the team needs to do,.

For sure, I actually want to bring in another young-ish QB in Sam Bradford to give him a chance to start. Far more team-friendly, and would give Rosen or Darnold some time.

If you bring in Bradford, you cant double down on injury history qb's in Rosen in my opinion.

I see Bradford as a bridge qb mainly because his history says no way he is able to stay healthy enough long term. But not a bad option either, and should be much cheaper, i cant imagine with his injury history getting much more than 12-15 mill a year.

And yes, that is allot of money but decent qbs are stupid expensive.

We've got a solid offensive line, one good RB, two potentially good to great WRs, a TE who looks like a future stud, and a solid second TE. Our main issues this year offensively were coaching and shit QB play. You add Smith and that addresses one of those issues. It won't make Hue a good coach, but it will patch a lot of the holes. Add in a stud RB early in the second and maybe another WR as well and you're looking at what could be a potent offense with a decent or better QB.

I don't think we're far off defensively, either, at least from a talent standpoint. We have quite a few good players on our defense. What killed us this year was that we didn't really have a number one DB and our general depth wasn't great. A couple of injuries just killed us because of that lack of depth.

I know the team went 0-16, but there is quite a bit of NFL-caliber talent on this squad, which isn't normally the case for an historically bad team. They just didn't have a QB and the coaching was terrible. And I still think it's possible that Hue wasn't going out of his way to win games because he wanted to get Sashi fired.
