2018 Cleveland Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Escape-ability. That's about it.

Throwing on the run/off balance. Throwing receivers open. He's thicker, but that isn't something he does. IMO, more capable of thriving in a messy pocket.

Don’t bother, he posts that same thing every week to the same responses. :chuckle:

Not sure I agree with these.

Fair & to each their own. I just see a lot of ducks when Rosen is throwing with a messy pocket. No doubt he can climb a pocket like a pro.

So, this isn’t something I would be apt to trust, but if it had any truth to it, we’re saying that our personnel team is filled with leaks and terrible people.

We have division, jealousy, and a rift before we’ve even made it to our first draft. Awesome.

And couldn’t even be further away from each other in evaluations. Let’s summarize:

Hue, Haley, Zampese, Saunders, Wolf, Berry:
1) Rosen
2) Darnold
3) Mayfield
4) Jackson
5) Allen

Dorsey, Highsmith, McCloughan:
1) Mayfield
2) Allen
3) Darnold
4) Rosen

DePodesta and Analytics team:
1) Mayfield
2) Rosen
3) Darnold
4) Jackson
5) Allen

It’s likely that this dude is a liar or is at least given largely false information. However, it’s not hard to believe that a bunch of stong-minded people are fighting.

If it did happen to somehow be true that they are still arguing amongst themselves on the QB’s, hopefully they read these boards. We clearly have it down to a top 2 consensus. :chuckle:

So while im more than willing to take this with a grain of salt, I would never be surprised to learn the analytics team likes mayfield the best. PFF loves him, and he put up by far and away the best career numbers of any of the QBs. It shouldnt be surprising to anyone that Mayfield would end up on top in that department. At the same time Allen is last in that department. Thats exactly what you would think your analytics department would show.

Now lets go to the first group with the coaches, wolf and Berry. Is that not about the exact same order most of us have the QBs ranked? Rosen/Darnold as a toss up, Mayfield as a very solid option after them, then all at the very bottom. I think 99% of this board would agree with that.

Now the group with Dorsey.... This is where i think it would be easy to call smoke screen. As teams try and figure out what the hell the browns are trying to do, they really arent sure what dorsey is thinking, so there is a bit of tea-leaf reading and guessing going on.

Let's step out on the ledge and make assumptions that this leaked information is at all true... which it probably is missing key information or is entirely untrue. However, let's just discuss it for fun.

So normally, if the entire coaching staff, the hand-picked assistant GM (Wolf), and the VP of Player Personnel (Berry) all had an agreement, the GM would be foolish to go against them.

In this case, the GM is a former player, has his own friend as a consultant (McCloughan) who loves Mayfield, and Highsmith (which is a former player) on his side. I think what we are seeing is that former players love Mayfield's fire to lead. In much the same way as current players gravitate to him, I could see that same mindset happening with former players falling in love with him. Football guys love Mayfield--he's the ultimate football guy.

Then, given the offense he's been in, it's not surprising that DePodesta's group spits out Mayfield as #1. PFF also loves him. It also follows Rosen, then Darnold. This is unique because Dorsey is able to marry this information to his brash scouting take as an endorsement.

So, it's an odd situation. 99 times out of 100, the GM would likely talk it out and probably trust his people. He'd go with the first group--who likes Rosen/Darnold.

However, in this rare instance, he's been saddled with a lame-duck coaching staff. He likely doesn't really put nearly as much weight into their opinion as he would a newly hired staff.

So, it's Berry's crew (a holdover in charge of many guys who will no longer be with the team following the draft) and Wolf (hand-picked) versus Highsmith (old-school and hand-picked), McCloughan (one of his most trusted friends), DePodesta (Analytics), and HIS OWN opinion.

Let's just be real... we know who's going to win. Mayfield is probably where they are leaning if you choose to believe any of the "inside" information.

Looking like Duke is next. Curious to see the numbers.

OBR says Duke is in Berea at the facility today, assuming to finish his extension. With the Landry signing and Duke getting done more than likely this week, should we assume the draft board is set?

If we draft Allen why have DePodesta (Analytics) and his group? I was reading something today if Allen is drafted in the first round he would be worst or 3rd worst by analytic score since 1996. It was a great article and I wish I could find it.

The 2 main points of the article were how bad Allen was through the eyes of analytics and if the Brown's draft Allen why have a analytic group.

"You can't coach accuracy," a personnel executive said of Allen, per NorthJersey.com's Art Stapleton. "You may think you can, but you can't. Period."

So after catching up on this thread, the only thing that makes any sense to me is Scot McLaughlin must be thestatman
