2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If anyone complains about taking Hurst with our 2nd pick, in the 2nd round? It's just straight bias

That or maybe we just don't think we need to spend a top 65 pick on a position of strength??

We need a QB, CB, S, LB, RB, OT, and WR much more than we need a DT, unless we plan on not picking up Shelton's option.

I'm gonna steer the conversation elsewhere.

I really hate to do this, but when is it time to start looking for a replacement for Joe Thomas? That time must be fast approaching, as he's getting up there in age and already has suffered one major injury. LT is going to become a major hole and priortiy in the next couple years.
It seems like Drango has been fine. I feel like Shon Coleman played LT in college and that is supposed to be his better position. Could be wrong though. Rod Johnson and Banner seem like developmental guys who could turn into something.

Drango has appeared fine, but he's ranked #67 out of 82 NFL tackles. He's been getting manhandled when other teams have to make a play.

Surprising nobody is mentioning LB as a need more often. While Kirksey and Collins are sure-fire starters, we could certainly upgrade Schobert. He’s a nice player and has turned out well, but we need a better playmaker. Although undersized, I really like Roquan Smith’s game out of Georgia. He’s probably a first rounder though if he falls to the 2nd he’s be great. Edmunds out of VT is another to look at in the 2nd (huge dude @ 6’5 250).

QB, FS, CB, RB, and LB are my top 5 needs. OT, DT, and WR would be next up. I think we can sign a solid WR3 (lol Britt) in FA (Pryor/Landry). We should also throw money at a CB unless Minkah plays there (Butler/Trumaine Johnson).

PFF has Schobert ranked #38 in LBs. Kirksey at #65 & Collins as #82. :chuckle:

We don't mention LB as a need often because we were told that Gregg Williams usually only plays 2 LB's and we have 2 really good ones in Collins and Kirksey. Joe Schobert has been as good as you would expect a 2nd year LB to be who's playing with 2 other studs.

Depends on how the off-season plays out. We shore up some weaknesses with FA and our first 3 picks go to FS, QB, RB, etc., then using our 4th pick in the draft to grab a DT/DE who would compliment our D-Line?

Most likely, if someone gets upset with that playing out, I'd wager it's sour grapes over his college.

Now if it's because FA was wasted and our first 3 picks go to BPA and those aren't needs? Then I'd hate the pick myself.

Hurst brings an interior pass rush with quick gap splitting and plays the run well, as well as occupying multiple blockers. And let's face it, no DT plays all snaps anymore, if they do, they are rare in today's league. Great depth for our rotation if Dorsey plans on adjusting our D-Line.

I wouldn't be opposed to him making adjustments to the D-Line anyways. We have no interior pass rush from our front 4 as is. Brantley has done better the past few weeks, but as constructed, we rely on the edge for our rush and we see what happens when one of our DEs miss significant time, we don't get enough pressure. Ogbah has been severely missed, I thought we were looking really good before he went down.

Sorry for the long post. I just wanted to make myself clear that I would be upset with the pick over certain factors, but in no way would I be upset with a versatile d-lineman who would help our D-Line as a whole.

Not sure how PFF grades LB's, but watching every game you can tell who is making plays at LB. Collins was starting to come on right as he got injured, while Kirksey is the clear leader on defense. Schobert has been a fantastic value pick, but he should be LB depth rather than starting.

Anyways, put a real secondary behind our front 7 and I think production goes way up. More sacks, more turnovers. Taylor/McCourty/Boddy-Calhoun are all average players. I certainly haven't seen any evidence that Peppers is a starter going forward either. DB is by far our biggest need after QB and I think we will address it through both FA and the draft this off-season.

Definitely disagree with you about Schobert. 2nd in the NFL in tackles. Not perfect, but is always around the ball and does great in run coverage. To each their own, I suppose.

Hey I'm with you. I hate Michigan, hated the Peppers pick, and generally don't give their players the benefit of the doubt, but I think Hurst is going to be an absolute stud (Gary too, next year). However, I wouldn't want to take him in the 2nd round if we had positions of need to be filled and legitimate players available at that spot.

For example, if we are taking him with the 2nd pick of the 2nd round and James Washington is available, I'm going Washington 10/10 assuming we dont fix that need in FA or take a WR in our first 3 picks.

This is all the proof anyone should need to realize that the coaching on this team is absurdly bad.

Kirksey and Collins didn't forget how to play football. They didn't forget how to cover. They didn't forget how to tackle. They are being schemed horribly and have been all year.

Gregg Williams is a jagoff.

I want to like your post, but I don't hate Michigan or the Peppers pick. For the position they are playing him in? Wasted pick in my eyes. I figured Williams would use him somewhere within 10 yards of the los, where he would thrive in my opinion.

So......... useful
