2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
we have a plethora of spending money. We need to go into FA like this (greatest show ever growing up):

Read an article (forget which it was or else I would post it) saying we are probably going to go in with at least 1 big splash, most likely 2. I feel we should go with 1 major splash (BIG $$$$), a handful of cannon balls (above avg. $$$), and finish it off with some flutter kicks (insurance buys $$).

Vets are coming to this team w/o a doubt.

Can't wait to watch all the young guys we cut this off season in the Super Bowl contributing for the Patriots.

The Browns have a lot of young linemen. Again, people bristled at Dorsey saying "This team needs more football players..."

Well, nobody would have bristled at Dorsey if all he'd actually said was that the Browns need more football players. What people bristled at was:

"You know what? You've got to get a guy like that (Hue Jackson) players," he said. "And you know what? I'll come straight out with it. The guys who were here before, that system, they didn't get real players."

That's taking a giant crap on a huge chunk of the roster. If you take Dorsey at his word, this team requires a complete tear-down to get rid of all the not "real players" brought in over the last two years, and start over with "real" Hue Jackson and John Dorsey type players.

Even if Dorsey didn't mean it literally (and considering he did mention a handful of guys on the team that he liked by name, including some acquired by Sashi, it's likely he made a sweeping generalization that shouldn't be taken literally), it's still a supremely oafish remark.

Dorsey will be on Bull and Fox this afternoon btw.

Absolutely. Oafish remarks don't matter very much if your job is limited to scouting. But if you are supposed to manage an entire player acquisition/development organization, you'd better be able to communicate effectively and clearly with your subordinates, otherwise you're going to end up with a one-man show, and everyone else standing around confused.

I just can't find myself getting past a pairing of Rosen/Barkley or Mayfield/Barkley this year.

I'm rock hard thinking about it.

That would be our most potent offense since 2007 in 2 years. With Alex Smith possibly signing here as a starter for a year to show Rosen how to handle himself as a pro.

Alex Smith will not come here to be a bridge QB, he wants to be a starter for the future where ever he lands, think Jay Cutler level QB if we are drafting a QB #1. And we will have to through big money at Cutler for one your for him not to retire, not sure Cutler is worth it, but just one quick name that came to mind.

Cutler would not be a guy I'd have any interest in showing Rosen the ropes.

A true professional would be needed. AKA McCown, Smith, etc.

As far as people saying Minkah should be picked. Isn't it much easier to find elite level defensive players later in the draft (say back end of the first round) as opposed to elite offensive playmakers? There has to be some sort of analysis that's been done to back this up. Guys like Elliott/Jones/Fournette/AJ Green/etc. vs TreDavious White/Xavier Rhodes/Marcus Peters/Landon Collins/Earl Thomas.

EDIT:
If this is actually the case, and it seems like it to me (or I'm just mistaken and using some kind of user bias here), wouldn't it be best to find offensive playmakers before focusing on building the defense?

Cutler being an asshole makes me not want him too, just couldnt think of a better example. Smith will not be it, maybe McCown again?

I would say that the consensus is that the top of the draft is dominated by defensive players this year and some olineman mixed in as well as RB. And then the wild card is the QBs.

Bound to change by the time the combine and workouts are finished. But right now, I'd say QB and minkah are our top 2 priorities in the top 5.

To those thinking that it's possible we can sign cousins and forgo a QB?

uh...

Yeah, no way we beat out the Broncos for the dude.

Don't let the 4-9 record fool you. Put a quality QB on that team? They're a division title contender. Maybe not a Super Bowl team (That is until 12 and 7 retire..) but good enough to make noise.

Draft a QB.

Normally you are right, but at the moment, they only true starting caliber FS is Minkah at the moment and free agency isn't deep in it either. James can play FS but translate better to SS than FS by projections. RB you can get in any round as well, so we almost have to go with Minkah just cause there isn't any depth at FS. If you look at the boards for safety, most of the guys day 1 and 2 are SS. We skipped on Hooker/Adams last season, we cannot do that again this season in my mind. He isn't as flashy of a pick like Barkley, but he feels like the must need guy to draft.

Now if we sign Cousins then Minkah and Barkley are both ours hence why I think we need to put up the money for Cousins. Then with the amount of day two picks, putting them into 2 WRs, another RB and a CB. We just upgraded our roster. Sign a veteran WR, veteran CB (Johnson is Williams is still here)

I don't trust signing a veteran RB, but grabbing a Forte or Gore on a one year deal honestly wouldn't be a bad plan since they can show the young guys what to do and how to be a good pro. I just like what we can do with Cousins over Rosen/Mayfield.

I’ve basically written Cousins off as a possibility. Seems like he’ll have no shortage of suitors (Denver, Jacksonville, Washington) that are better than the Browns.

Same thing for Alex Smith. I have a hard time thinking that that guy is ready to go to a situation where a No. 1 overall pick is breathing down his neck. Feels like there are other places he could go where he’d be the unquestioned starter and not have to deal with that.

Whatever veteran QB the Browns acquire this offseason has to be 100% comfortable with the possibility of not playing IMO.
