2018 NBA Draft - June 21

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’m good with the Celtics consolidating a lot of those powerful assets for an unknown commodity instead of a Kawhi.

It’s fucked up they could easily do both of those moves. Oof.

Yeah...I think Bamba's enough of a project offensively that he won't have much of a positive overall impact in year 1. Trading Brown+Rozier+picks for him may actually make them slightly worse for next year.

Well, no, they'll have a full year of Hayward, not to mention a second-year Tatum, so my guess is they'd end up better.

And I think Bamba is going to be like Markannen next year in the sense that, like Lauri, everyone is going to feel like he'll be a really solid pro, but he's going to burst onto the scene and make people say, "holy shit, he's way better than we thought."

Actually, that could apply to Tatum too.

To be clear, I mean worse than if they simply did nothing this offseason. I agree they'll very likely be better than they were last year.

Also, not sure Markkanen exceeded expectations. He was almost exactly what I expected him to be as a rookie (good scoring volume on middling efficiency, bad/terrible at almost everything else).

I expect rookie Bamba will be a good shot blocker, a decent rebounder, and bad/terrible at almost everything else. That's probably an upgrade over what they're getting from Baynes, but is it bigger than the downgrade from Rozier to Larkin (or whoever), and from Brown to Ojeleye (or whoever)?

Now that I'm reading that, a trade with Memphis would be perfect for both teams and that scares me.

Memphis played with Conley off ball before his injury riddled '17 and they have obviously committed to not tearing things down and just retooling. Rozier, Brown, #27 & Sacto future 1st works and they get their elusive elite rim protector, clear way for Tatum/Hayward and could take back one of Memphis's backup point guards who could spot start for Kyrie like Harrison.

Jaylen Brown is really that good, to me. I said when we asked for more from Boston that Id rather have him than Brooklyn pick or anyone in the trade. If I'm Memphis, I take him, Rozier and that Sacto first without thinking twice for #4

After watching a lot of film and talking to people I trust in the analytics community, Sexton is growing on me again.

He was my favorite player in this range pre-draft and a lot of the analysis I have seen is very bullish on him at the next level.

He has rated out highly in future w/s, future dws and shot release rate / consistency.

He didn't shoot the ball really well as a freshman (from 3) but his mechanical analysis is really good. He has a really repeatable motion, gets it off quickly and can create his shot in traffic. Much of his shooting % dip was some suspect shot selection as the season wore on, something that can easily be cleaned up.

Can finish with both hands at the rim, nice vision out of the PNR, good lift off the dribble and the potential to be a good+ NBA defender. He reminds me of a more skilled Patrick Beverly, which would be an incredibly nice fit.

Yeah...that is very realistic and it fucking sucks. Bamba on the Celtics is a huge problem.

I think the dots you would connect here would be an all out recruiting pitch to LeBron, as sad as that is.

You subtract Brown, fill the center position with a really versatile guy like Bamaba and this lineup starts looking really, really terrifying.

PG Kyrie
SG Tatum
SF LeBron
PF Horfor
C Bamba

6th man Hayward

For fuck sake, someone get me the puke bucket.

I read that Bamba isnt a low post player but more of a power forward which would still fit well next to Gasol. Sacramento showed signs of life with Fox so they may be better next year as well.

Grizz should take Bamba considering they got lucky this draft is top heavy this year. May not be so lucky next year.

Major questions about him defensively...in particular, his team was much worse defensively (and slightly worse overall) with him on the court, and 1.2 steals+blocks per 40 is terrifyingly low. I like Young (better all-around offense, similar defensive concerns) and SGA (better pure point guard and all-around player) over Sexton at the PG position.

He might not necessarily be a great fit for the Cavs at the moment but I think Lonnie Walker is gonna be a really good pro.

I think Miami was kind of a mess in-terms of finding balance in their lineups, especially with their ball dominant guards, so I think there might be more to him than what we saw this year. He certainly showed flashes, just lacked consistency.

Some fun player comps today:

Musa just finished his season on a high note, dropping 21 as his team won the Croatian league championship. He posted a 19.1 PER (0.247 WS/48) across Eurocup/Adratic/Croatian league play (not including today's game).

Saric had a similar season at the same age in 2013, posting an 18.1 PER (0.156 WS/48) across Eurocup/Adratic/Croatian league play and finishing his season with the Croatian league championship.

Doncic tallied just 4 points on 2/7 shooting today, but rounded out the box score with 7 assists, 4 boards, 3 steals and a block as Real won game 1 of the ACB league semis.

Real has just 4 losses so far in ACB league play this season. The fewest ever (regular season + playoffs) was 5, by 2001 champions Barca. Coincidentally, that team was led by a 20-year-old Pau Gasol (about a year and a half older than Doncic is now).

I can't find any stats for him, but Pau won ACB finals MVP that year, and was All-Euroleague 2nd team as well, the youngest player to receive either honor as far as I can tell.

Went back to the Cavs Assets post. Is #8 all the Cavs have for 2018? A shame. If MPJ somehow falls to the Cavs, I wish there were a 2nd round option so that Okobo could be snatched up

Well, Cavs gave up their fucking 1st round pick.
