2019 Browns Off Season/Roster Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think Harris is smart spending.

Considering our top CB was a rookie last year and you don’t have to spend on him for a while.

Adding an elite slot guy to massively help us in our window. Which is absolutely right now, is a good idea to me. Especially when you can cut ties with him in 2-3 years when you have to start making the decisions on who needs to be paid from our young core.

My point is that the bolded language is absolutely irrelevant. Because of rollover, any money we don't spend now is going to be available -- dollar for dollar -- to pay for Garrett, etc., down the road.

So if you think he's worth $15M per year in vacuum, that's fine. I'm just saying that us having "extra" money right now shouldn't factor into it at all.

Under no circumstance do you ever pay $12-14 million/year for a 30 year old slot corner.

You can keep arguing for it, it’s not going to make you any more correct.

There is no point in us keeping extra money when we’re in a contention window.

Why keep the money and let it sit when you can just use it on help and free it up again later?

Makes no sense to sit on it.

What extra money? You realize we are basically capped out on true cap after we sign draft picks, right?

All we have left is rollover. Once that’s gone, it’s gone. And cutting a player doesn’t get it back.

I don't think you're understanding how rollover works, but it's apparently going to take a better man than I am to explain to you, because I've clearly failed.

ETA:

Gotcha.

Didn’t realize.

Apparently, @thedarkness2332 was that better man....

How humiliating.

I'm such a failure.

Nope, it's awesome.

I still don't understand being so convicted without any underlying knowledge. But hey, these are the days we live in.

Because I like Chris Harris as a player and think he’d be really good fit here.

It’s that simple. Didn’t have a full understanding of how the rollover money worked. Have a better one now.

Still don’t fully understand the NFL Cap. Probably never will. Oh well.

And on top of that I would STILL trade for Chris Harris and go ahead and get cheaper in other areas if that’s what we needed to do.

For example TJ Carrie is making 9 mil/year to do what exactly? I’m willing to give Harris the extra 6 for his production.

Carrie, if I remember correctly, agreed to have the first two years of the four year deal contain almost all of the guaranteed money. He is definitely going to be on the Browns this year but needs to prove his value going forward. Considering how hard it was to sign free agents after going 0-16, I get it... but he will be a restructuring target next offseason.

He’s a free agent after this year.
