2023 College Football Season/Playoff (off the field)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
OSU has 3 games on their schedule they could realistically lose. 9 wins seems like the absolute floor for them, 10 wins seems likely.

For Michigan to get to 10 wins they are going to have to beat 3 of Texas, USC, @Washington, Oregon and @OSU.

Out of those 5 more talent heavy programs, 3 of the games come in the first 6 weeks of the season.

A lot will be determined by transfer portal and returnees…..but Michigan has a schedule where I think 7-8 wins could be the floor…..and something like 10 wins seems like a really, really, really good season.

I was moreso commenting on you saying OSU drew an insanely lucky schedule- Texas is probably the toughest opponent on either team's schedule (ignoring The Game) but that game was scheduled, not randomly drawn.

@ Oregon > Oregon
@ Penn State > @ Washington
USC > Iowa

I know USC has the talent and they took the right step in removing Grinch to hopefully fix that awful defense. But without Caleb I'm not super convinced they're anything to worry about at home in Week 4. @ Washington is definitely not a walk in the park but they're losing Penix, Odunze, Polk, and Trice. And I know Iowa has no real shot at beating either Michigan or Ohio State but they're probably the 4th best team Ohio State plays next year

The good news? 10 wins and you’re in the playoff! Woohoo!

My entire stance has been......
  1. Michigan likely broke a rule
  2. Michigan will be punished and the severity will largely disappoint most
Beyond that, everything else has been really interesting theatre.

I sound like a broken record, but anyone hoping for vacated seasons, heads rolling, etc. has not paid attention to the NCAA over the last three years. They’re hoping the noise continues to fade so that they don’t have to waste what little muscle they have left on this. NIL, conference realignment, and the transfer portal are already more than they can handle. The NCAA is becoming obsolete, at least as it pertains to CFB.

One thing Ohio State fans can certainly still hang their hat on is consistently winning 10 games. Since Urban we haven’t finished a regular season without 10 wins (2020 is the exception but we were undefeated and got to the national title game).

If Day somehow misses the playoff next year he won’t be coaching in the bowl game. So 9 is both the floor and rock bottom (we are a bit spoiled, if you hadn’t already noticed prior to this 3 year stretch).

If day said were going to the portal and didn't actually fucking have a guy in the portal smfh.

Brown is gonna be ass

Big portal news:

It’s kind of weird seeing so many developmental QB’s in the portal. It seems like a lot of these guys have too many people telling them they should be playing.

Increasingly, it is going to be really hard to develop someone for 2 years and let them play at QB as a JR and SR. You basically have a single year to develop and then the guy is ejecting if he isn’t the clear starter,

I think it can be a real hard give and take with some of this with a QB. Like if you give a player like Mccord early playing time mostly in garbage time, you can burn their redshirt then hurt your chance to keep them later on. I'm not sure Mccord enters the portal now if he has that extra year eligibility especially if the Buckeyes don't get a transfer portal QB.

I think players know that meaningful years of playing helps them develop and get to the NFL. Like Maalik Murphy might get a meaningful year of play taken away by Ewer coming back then have to fight it out with Manning for the starting spot. Like Mccord they also burnt Murphy's redshirt so he has one less year of eligibility to get his meaningful playing time in.

It might actually be smarter to get a older backup QB in the portal to take on garbage time and to save the more talented guys for games where you really need them to try to preserve their redshirts so they don't feel th urgency to leave.

Murphy had a few really rough passes in that Kansas State game. Also doesn't look like he ran the ball once in either of his two starts.

Transfer portal QB talk is going to become the new Browns QB2 love story. Lots of talking, but very little substance or action.

Welcome to the new college football!
It's new, but at the end of the day, it's going to be far better overall for these players. A decision at 17 shouldn't dictate if a QB ever plays. It's just that college football now knows how college.basketball feels with all these 1 and done QBs lol.

I’m okay with it. I think teams just need to adjust. Not really a doom and gloomer like many with all these changes, but I won’t deny some feel weird.

I was thinking maybe something like a restriction based on previous year PT if not a fifth year transfer but that would negate too many off the field reasons to transfer that shouldn't be discounted.
