2023 Summer League Champs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’m actually more excited to watch Craig Porter Jr play.

For a guy who is 6’2” he blocked 3+ shots in 8 games this past season. He plays hard defensively and looks to help out. He even averaged 1.5 SPG, and 1.5 BPG. I love that he also looks to get boards and hustles. We need that big time and I would love to build off PGs who hustle, play defense, great BBIQ, good low post game, and shoots decently well.

He’s had some amazing nifty passes. He’s someone to build off as a backup PG here and give it a try. He also can create his own shot too.

He gives me some Gabe Vincent Gary Payton jr vibes.

Lastly he’s shifty. He’s the type of player to be a fan favorite.

Does this Nance guy have a shot?

I think he's trying to earn a role on the Charge. I do see some rim protection and NBA length. For a player as long as Nance, his jump shot is passable. He will get some minutes this summer, but I'm more excited for Diop, Travers and Mobley putting on a front court passing clinic.

NBA Summer League, the ugliest basketball we'll ever want to see. Still, I'll be watching. Porter, Travers, Diop, Bates, Nance, and Mobley in particular. At least one guy from the team should contribute something soon. Porter or Brobley would be my guess.

How many 6'-2" guards in division one lead their team in block shots and rebounds? If Porter shows out he will hopefully replace Neto.

Of course, that begs the question of why a 6-2 guard in division 1 who led his team in block shots and rebounds nevertheless went undrafted....

Because old? I feel like a few solid upperclassmen who could be real contributors always get dropped in favor of some random 18 yo with tantalizing tools but no established production. See, Wade and Stevens on our own team

I definitely agree that age is a big factor. I also think NBA teams like to draft PGs with speed or height/length if you are older you better have one of those to get drafted. Just being a smart PG with good athleticism just isn't enough if you aren't a one and done.

Austin Reeves, FVV. Apparently if you play at Wichita State (even part of your career) and stay in college 4 years, all scouts immediately so “no”

Disappointed no one here has mentioned Cedric Henderson Jr here. Either the old heads are out or not taking their memory pills or few were around in 1997.

Did I miss Ced's 5 consecutive All-Star appearances?

Cedric was such a flash in the pan tease. One of the first guys I remember getting excited about then him doing absolutely nothing afterwards.

I always liked the guy because he played hard, but you're right about him being something of a tease. We always waited for him to take that next step, and he just didn't.

Seemed like a good guy, though.

ETA: Just noticed that his FG% went down each of his four years with the Cavs. Began as a rookie with a hopeful .480, but then dropped to .417, then .396, and finally .389.

No wonder we were so disappointed...

Just taught me at a young age to not get too excited about guys who have show flashes.
