23-24 Trade Deadline: What Can Koby Cook Up? (Kitchen Is Closed)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’m not willing to trade either Wade or Okoro for Royce O’Neal. Our guys are young & improving instead of old & regressing.
That's the hard thing about an O'Neale deal is it likely requires a larger iteration to which it complicates things..

The smaller roster fodder is not enough -- Jones + TT + Jerome doesn't work..
The equivalent salary doesn't bring the Cavs back equivalent value -- they're better off keeping Wade and Okoro then swapping him out..
The larger salary (LeVert) requires some more finagling -- the Nets would have to send back some more assets..

But in the end, he's got the skillset the Cavs need -- versatile defender, efficient player, low usage player, and is a good shooter... We saw how having effective two-way players can amplify the core, and having more reliable options in the playoffs is the one area of concern I have for this team right now..

Plus, you likely are able to extend O'Neale to a team friendly deal in the offseason without utilizing any of your exceptions and provides a buffer in case Okoro gets a crazy offer..

Great stuff @Smooth

Like some of the ideas, don’t like some others, but LOVE the effort and comprehensive look at deadline week from the Cavs perspective
It's hard to find a good fit for what the Cavs need based on what the Cavs have to offer..

As I mentioned: All of the Cavs contracts have positive value attached to them (credit to Koby)... They don't really have a filler salary on the roster that can allow them to easily build out deals... Any type of stacking of salaries on the roster increases the actual outgoing value which then makes it hard to find a player who has an equivalent salary and two players worth of value...

I'd welcome other thoughts on who realistic targets are approaching the deadline... Because of the renewed health of this team and because of the difficulty in building out a trade, it wouldn't surprise me if they stand pat..

Is CPJ not being eligible for the post-season the reason why LeVert has essentially become the PG of the second unit?

Add in Vince Williams with any Memphis deal please. Just signed a 4 yr 9 mil deal last month too. Listed as a G, but he plays so much bigger. Upgrade from Caris IMO, 2nd year in league, only 23 years old.

I really like the idea of Aaron Holiday. A tested, solid, backup point guard is nice thing to have. Wish he was 3 inches taller.

I have a feeling depending on how the trade deadline goes, the Cavs will convert CPJ from a two-way deal to a multi-year deal... They're likely waiting to see what their roster situation is both roster size and luxury tax wise to make the right call with CPJ's salary.. Additionally, you have to weigh what's on the buyout market and what exception money to use so it's all part of a jenga game to ensure everything fits..

This has been a Koby staple going back years from Sam Merrill to Dean Wade to Lamar Stevens to Patrick McCaw to Jordan Bell, etc.. He likes signing these unearthed gems to affordable multi-year deals that are either a good trade asset or turn out to be really value rotational players as we've seen it cut both ways..

I'd trade LeVert and parts/pieces for just about any decent big wing who can help Evan and Wade defend the likes of Tatum, Brown, etc. Some 3 point shooting ability would be a plus, no need to be a creator or a dribbler.

Curious who that player would/could be. Seems everyone wants someone to guard the best wings in the NBA and hit a 3.

A year ago I would agree he’s got the skill set we need, but not now. If we could add him gratis, great, but we’d have to give up Wade or Okoro or LeVert. As you say they’re better off keeping Wade and Okoro and I agree.

I’m against swapping LeVert for Royce because that would leave us with just two players that can create their own shot under pressure (DM & DG). Also, I’m not convinced DM & DG is a better death lineup combo than DM & CV. I just think Royce is a duplication of what we already have in Okoro and Wade and LeVert is a guy that drives you crazy but bails us out when we need critical buckets late.

If either DM or DG is unavailable we’ll really need Vert, and I don’t think we can be too confident Garland will be healthy.

And no, I’m not willing to hand the ball to CPJ as a rookie in the playoffs in crunch time and JBB is not going to risk his job on him. Maybe in a year, but not now.

Ive been pushing for Kenrich Williams for a year or so now. Not sure he is a realistic target but is probably cheap. Jones and some 2nds

That's the billion dollar question. There has to be some under-appreciated big wing out there someplace?

Love Kenrich, and eventually OKC has to face their asset/roster space crunch. I like where you head is at... He's a very strong bench forward for the Dollar Store price.
