23-24 Trade Deadline: What Can Koby Cook Up? (Kitchen Is Closed)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Mitchell isn't a high end star. Never has come close to a ws/48 of .200 or close and just really hit his ceiling fast. Mobley is and was a 5-6 year plan. Cavs fans live in impatience. Altman blows through assets like a 10 year old boy.

In the ancient days in Cleveland, 4 quarters for $1 trade proposals were a staple of Pete Franklin's show. They are usually fantasies, unless the $1 player is one that his team wants to get rid of for reasons other than how well he can play.

I think it's better to trade question marks for question marks. Hope to get lucky. Like the trade that brought JR & Shumpert. Or Clarkson & Larry Nance Jr.

Those are great trades to round out a roster, or start a rebuild.

The Cavaliers have 10 guys (DG, Don, Strus, Evan, JA, Isaac, Levert, Niang, Sam, CPJ) that could easily be rotation guys. Usually 2 of those guys (3 when TT is back) don't play, unless theres a blowout or injury. Why trade marginal for marginal? There isn't a *bad* fit out of those 10 guys, its just a numbers game. Are any of the JAGs that have been mentioned gonna shake stuff up and elevate the Cavaliers to the level of the Celtics? Not likely, cause they'll have a hard time getting on the floor. Who is RON gonna take minutes from? Not Evan or JA, when healthy. Not Caris. Probably not even Niang. So why trade Dean or Isaac for a guy that doesn't have a clear role?

What is, is. I never said Mitchell was a high end "star". He is the guy you put behind Giannis.

Do you think the Bucks have a chance to get Joe Barry Carroll?

I agree with you completely. I was just addressing the 4 for 1 concept.

While, admittedly, unlikely those are the only trades * I* would make. Could Isaac, Caris, Dean and Damian net a wing that pushes Strus to the bench from a team in need of a reset? Probably not, but IF not, there's no reason to make a trade.

Get us a tall young 6'8" 225lb wing with great defense and a superb outside shot and court awareness for team ball. Oh and don't give up any of our quality role players that finally know how to play together with good chemistry.

Honeslty standing pat with our role players is probably the play here. They are playing well together, setting screens, moving, passing. The ideal player we need is not there for what we are willing to give up in terms of guards and wings.

I like Levert, I like Merrill, I like Niang, Okoro, Wade, and CPJ. We will sign CPJ to a 3 yr 10 mil deal. But in addition to Strus, Garland, and Mitchell, that's a lot of guards. There is rotational space if we continue to treat Wade and Niang as modern day stretch 4s.

What we do actually need is to sign a vet 6'10" 250+ 4/5 with defense and respectable midrange. I don't know if we have a roster spot. Levert is probably the casualty to bring back a strong big talent now that we have Garland to do ball duties when Mitchell is out. Levert's ability to create action and shots when we have an offensive drought is very needed though, especially if DG goes down again. We need that slasher in the playoffs. So instead of going for upgraded big, let's just go cheap bargain bin filler big and keep Levert and the depth.

Otherwise, in conclusion, we are good.
Yep. I am in the camp of stand pat. Dean and Okoro provide the defense that is needed in the playoffs. Dean is finding his three. Okoro has improved some on offense and thrives more in a up pace enviroment. And oh yeah, he is still only 23.

Levert is needed offense off the bench and is on a cheap deal.

Jon es will bring nothing.

TT will be back in advanced of the playoffs

I will get pelted here but I think Bates is a guy we can bring on later in the season. Would not mind him on the bench come playoff time if instant offense is needed like Merrill. If nothing else he better be on the bench just to take in playoff basketball.

The only two trades I could see us making are:

a.) A 2 for 1 deal where we trade out some combination of Strus/Levert/Niang/Okoro/Merrill for a starting SF who could replace Strus. I like Strus's fit with the team, but he's clearly the weakest starter -- and that's a position you should always think about whether you can improve come playoff time.

The only four potential options that are listed in this role are: Jerami Grant/Wiggins/Miles Bridges/Pat Williams. Williams doesn't necessarily even seem like an upgrade, though he is younger with potential that you'd be paying for -- probably doesn't fit our timeline well. Bridges has too much baggage and also is going to be impossible to resign because we don't get bird rights, so he is out. Wiggins would have been interesting if he was playing like he was two years ago, but something has seriously regressed. That leaves Grant as the only person who makes some sense -- and we should probably at least explore some Strus + Levert for Grant concept -- but I doubt anything comes together.

b.) A deal for another backup big to supplement TT. Our bigs depth was terrible, then TT was surprisingly good -- but will that continue once he comes back? It would also be nice to supplement our bigs rotation with somebody who can shoot a little and also guard larger centers (I thought we should have gone after Mo Bamba in the offseason). This is likely a small deal for a 3rd/4th option that is better than Jones, and brings some more shooting than TT.

PG MITCHELL, Porter
SG Merrill, Reaves
SF LEBRON, Struss
PF MOBLEY, Wade
C ALLEN, Rui, TT, BUYOUT BEEFY GUY

If you talk to LEBRON and he plans to play at least the next 2 years, you consider it. If he says 4+ or until the wheels fall off, I’d do it. While we are decent now, I don’t see championship team. That team, is pretty balanced, I know we are overpaying and a risk, but we‘d Complete for a championship legitimately over the next 2 years and if somehow LEBRON could be like Tom Brady, maybe even more.

This is definitely going to happen.

That deal actually kind of makes sense, for both teams. We'd clearly instantly become the favorites to get out of the East.

I do think in this scenario Strus starts at the 2. I'd probably prefer giving them Merrill or CPJ (their choice) instead of Okoro. We'd need more size.
