#25: ATH, Jabrill Peppers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lol no. That wasn’t the time to make a play. That’s a time when you don’t fumble. That’s been my entire point. You could NOT lose that game short of a turnover. You were EXTREMELY likely to either tie or win if you just don’t turn the ball over. That wasn’t the time to make a play

Funny I see you no where in the baker thread criticising him. He could have held onto the ball and not fumbled turning it over to TB. He could have lead the team to score on any of the 5 turnovers other then 1 time. Plenty of blame to go around.

Hue could not suck at head couch. He’s worse then Jeff Fisher.

Ok this act where if someone speaks out or criticizes one player other people just say “well I haven’t seen you in every thread criticizing every player” is getting old

Baker didn’t have a good game. That fumble was pretty damn rough too. I have a little more tolerance for a QB fumbling than any other player, but while we’re in the Peppers thread we talk about Peppers

I’m pretty disappointed that it’s gotten to the point where such a crucial fumble is just immediately washed away as just a guy trying to make a play or “we wouldn’t be in that position without his prior return”

Could other things have went differently for us resulting in a win? Of course. If you asked me to point to the one most crucial play of the game? It's that fumble. We had such a miniscule chance of losing the game as long as we didn't turn the ball over at that point

We wouldn’t have even had to worry about that if the team would have just scored more or scored before that in OT. We get the ball at the start of OT and we go 3 and out.

Their kicker hit a 59 yarder. We don’t even have a kicker that can hit a 50 yarder.

Had a good game besides the play that lost it for us. Not even sarcastically, I liked the way he played up until that point. He's just gotta keep piecing good games together until he has a bunch in a row.

Lot of blame assigning here on Peppers specifically.

Prior to that, all these things happened late:

In regulation, we stalled a goal to go drive with miserable play calling and then got stuffed on 4th.

In OT the offense won the toss and proceeded to put themselves 20 yards behind the chains. Then on 3rd and 6, our best pickup play was apparently an out route to our TE?

After Collins INT, the offense needed to merely gain 8-9 yards for a make-able FG. We instead went 3 plays for 0 yards and punted.

Following the Peppers fumble, the Defense pushed the Bucs back WELL out of FG range.....and then Williams surrendered a 14 yard pass play by rushing 4 and playing a soft zone with our safeties 25 yards off the line of scrimmage. Every d-coordinator worth anything AT LEAST rushes one player there in an effort to avoid time for a 15 yard deep out.

The above illustrates a lot of people (coaches, players) just not getting it done. The Peppers play specifically was just someone trying to make a play, late in a game, where we had sputtered multiple times with good field position. Even so, the defense put the team in a position to get the ball back and then the defensive staff got conservative and gave them the 5% chance to make that FG.

At what point are we as browns fans going to stop accepting people "trying to make a play" and failing? I'm tired of that excuse. Same thing has been said about tons of shitty plays over the last 10 years. How about we execute, instead?

There are a lot of people to blame for that loss, but Peppers made one of the worst individual plays of the game (if not the worst) and it cost us.

He kept us in the game with that return and then he was PART OF what cost us the game with that fumble.

Fucking sucks but it happens.

A lot more shit cost us the game than that fumble (horrible, timely penalties - horrible non-calls by the refs - flat out coaching - not going for that FG at the end of the quarter (coaching) - playing such weak coverage on their WR's in OT)

Peppers himself didn't lose us this game.

Being aggressive and making a mistake is not the Browns problem, it's actually the opposite.

What has doomed us all year is conservative play on both sides of the ball, as the games have tightened.

Peppers owned the fumble in the press conference, as he should but the defense was 1 play away from getting the ball back (post fumble) and they fell in to the above.

At what point as browns fans are we going to accept the offense going 3 and out twice in OT? How about we convert first downs instead? How about we punch it in at 4th and goal on the one yard line?

Don't see too many people in the Hue Jackson thread calling for him to be retained tbh... Same with Haley. Think Browns fans have stopped accepting those things.

Who was the defender who allowed Jackson to catch the ball to get into FG range?

Ward was on him initially and BBC was the closest defender when he caught the pass. We were in a zone btw.

I think Our 3rd down defense contributed most to the loss.

Gregggggggg playing a super soft zone every 3rd down is the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

And doing it in that situation is inexplicable.

I think Ward allowed 1 catch in man coverage yesterday for like 10 yards. Good try tho
