Absolutely no clue what you mean by straw men, so I suppose it gets left there.

I don't think any of us are well enough informed to be able to predict before training camp even begins whether or not Kizer would benefit from significant starts this season. Hell, I'll bet the coaches aren't even sure of that yet.

Everyone so excited about Kizer Closing in on Kessler seemed to miss the part that Kizer still is behind Osweiler who hasn't gained any ground on Kessler

If Kizer starts and starts out hot, he will get both of his arms bitten off by a bull shark that flukishly swam thousands of miles upstream from the ocean into Lake Erie.

I truly think Kizer pulls a Dak this year.

He's the most talented QB on the roster. He's been picking up the playbook extremely fast.

We don't need to let him sit and learn. If you're good in today's NFL you come out and start right away.

We should have a very good offensive line, and at least a decent defense. May also have a pretty good tight end. That's not a bad combination for a young QB.

I just think it's really tough to predict right now. If the running game is working, he seems to be picking things up well, and he looks to be the best option, sitting him for the entire season except garbage time at the end of the season doesn't make sense. Heck, starting him at least after the bye week may be the best move. It may win us an extra game or two if he's the best option, and it'll help inform us going into next year's draft.

I just think a hard and fast rule that "rookies shouldn't start" is foolish in light of recent successes like Derek Carr and Dak Prescott. It is simply too dependent on the rest of the team, and on individual progress.

If the running game is working

I honestly cannot remember the last time the running game was working. A couple games a few years ago when Crow went off?

We have made no changes in that aspect, I expect us to be no more than subpar running-wise. And we cannot rely on it.

yet we have. The browns will have a better run blocking line than last season.

regardless Kessler should get at least 4 games to show his worth. If he does well then there is no need to put in Kizer unless there is an injury.

???????

We added Pro-Bowler Kevin Zeitler at RG, get Bitonio back at LG, and signed J.C. Tretter to replace Cam Erving at center. We massively upgraded all three interior line positions from what they were last season.

The running game begins with the OL, and this is probably the best one we've had since the Return. Actually, since a good bit before that as well. The closest would probably be when we had Thomas, Steinbach, and Mack for a few years, though the right side of those lines was a disaster. This line looks to be as good or better because RG will be a strength rather than a hole.

I really can't fathom the claim that we made no changes this offseason in terms of our running game prospects.

Why though?

If Kizer proves to be the better QB in camp and throughout pre-season. You start him. End of story.

Nobody is arguing that, but the Browns are practicing without full pads without contact. The best quarterback in that situation may be the least experienced quarterback with the best tools... but when it's full contact we very well may have a different quarterback who puts the team in a best position to win.

But I agree you roll with the most prepared guy who gives you the best chance to win.

I am completely confused.

That is all.

Kizer hasn't been pressured in a game like situation. Kizer as the inexperienced qb would make the most gains because they start out at the bottom of the scale.

lets say that on day 1( on a fictional imaginary scoring scale.). Kesller scored a 60, Osweiler a 50 and Kizer a 10.
Then on day 10. Kessler shows a 65, Osweiller a 52 and Kizer a 49.

Kizer is the most improved.. he should be because he had more room to improve.

but how much of what progress he made translates to effectively running plays under fire.
