#52 DeShone Kizer

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Honestly, I thought the OL was more than good enough based on what I saw. There were plenty of clean pockets out there.

There were only two real breakdowns from what I remember. One was Duke badly blowing a blitz pick up that led to a sack and one was Greco (not a normal starter) being too slow as a pulling guard to get over to JPP before he could blow the play up.

Otherwise, I thought the pass protection was good enough. A couple of sacks on Kizer came from him holding the ball way too long/WRs not getting open.

Other than the ill-advised runs by Kizer himself, the running game was not good. And a rookie QB needs that (see Dak) or they'll just sit on the pass.

Also, excessive OL penalties can put a young QB in more dangerous situations. And there were quite a few of those.

How can you judge the running game when they don't have two of the starting linemen or the starting RB playing? Any game that the Browns are without Thomas, Bitonio and Crowell the running game is going to suffer. I'm not sure what you'd expect.

I agree, although being a preseason game I'm sure they were resting some more physical players to cut back on wear and tear to make some tough roster decisions. Backup tackles have a long way to go. I think Dayes outperformed Poop Dick, who got burned in pass pro a few times as well. Magee peaked at the kneel down demonstration and should rent not buy.

I expect the full OL to take a few regular season games to gel, especially since they won't be playing together in preseason.

I went around with @Randolphkeys for awhile on the whole Kizer thing, but one thing upon which we did agree was how helpful a strong running game is for a rookie QB. I'm simply saying that I'd like to see our OL starters play together for a few games, and cut down on penalties, before tossing Kizer in there.

And that's assuming the coaches deem Kizer the QB with the best chance of winning games.

I think Greco is starter quality and many lineman are not fast enough to get over on JPP.

Poop Dick, who got burned in pass pro a few times
This pissed me off more than just a little bit. He totally killed at least 2 passing plays single handedly by bitching out pretty hard. I get a blitzing LB is a tough assignment, but you can at least slow the guy down. How about a cut block?

I think I'm about done with Poop Dick at halfback. His pass pro is just so bad. Let him be a receiving weapon but I need a guy who at least takes some pride in his blocking back there or it's just gonna be a free rush to the QB

The way the guy runs makes me a bit anxious. That and the amount of sacks I've seen him take. That is something the coaches have to get into his mind.

I'm sure that mainly has to do with the fact that the starting o-line isn't actually in.

He throws a pretty ball though.

The runs we are going to have to live with, they will be called, he is limmited with playbook and a run is one of the things he can do.

What Kizer needs to do is slide and not prove a point to the guys.

That said, when was the last time we saw a qb take a hit like that in a Browns Uniform and not break himself. Kizer's build is as important as any other trait. 6-4, soon to be a solid and athletic 240-250lbs...very nice.

So Kizer is pretty much the season starter barring a meltdown, right?

Yeah I feel little more comfortable knowing his build.

Still I'm stupidly worried about him surviving that first game. You know the Yinz ain't gonna be kind to him.

He will be fine.

His stats will look like shit and we will lose and then the sky will be falling, but he will be fine.
