A closer look at Bradley Beal

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
W&G doesn't like the deal so he breaks it early, hoping it falls through??

:chuckles: Seriously though, if Beal impressed that much you do the deal. It's entirely possible to find similar talent at 33 & 34 as 24.

I'd much prefer if we do the trade we use one of the 2nd round picks, quite frankly. I think Charlotte is locked in on either Robinson or Barnes, and are looking for a way out of the 2 slot. They know they can get who they truly want and add something ....if I'm the Cavs I wait and counter on draft day with the top 2nd round pick and hold firm.

This strikes me as either 1 of 2 things:

1) The front office is using W&G as a medium for a smoke screen regarding Beal to decrease MKG's value in order to ensure he falls to them at 4. The Cavs most likely know that MANY media members get info from this site, and will run with this statement.

2) The team truly covets Beal, but giving up 24 as well signifies that they have other plans in place for using their pieces to move back up into the first round of the draft. 4 rookies is a lot to bring into camp, and as W&G wrote before, the Cavs could possibly not be drafting at any of the positions they are currently slotted at.

I'm not convinced it's 100% legit ...signed,sealed, and delivered ...but I got a call from someone today that said he heard we had a deal in place for the 2nd pick, in order to select Beal. It involved our 4 and 24... which I think is pretty pricey given that 4 could likely be MKG... BUT, that's what I heard in a call today from a decent source..

I wouldn't be a big fan of this, but MAN would it fuck over Washingon LOL

If they had Beal and Barnes in on the same day and they even possibly went at each other and this is the reaction of the team. I'm happy with it. It means Beal is far and away better in hteir eyes, rather than gamble and hope you get lucky. I'd prefer to just get our guy. How many times in drafts for either the Cavs or Browns has the guy we most coveted gone RIGHT before we picked?

If they're enamored with Beal I'm sold. He and Kyrie in the back court would be an excellent shooting combo. Especially in years to come if we can land a scoring center. With TT's D and rebounding all of a sudden you have a great young nucleus of complimentary parts.

I agree. I'd sacrifice one of the 2nd round picks, but nothing else. In this draft, there is very little difference in value between picks 2-6. The player picked at #6 may end up being better than the player picked at #2. It's for that reason that I'd rather we trade back than up.

This is just my opinion, but I think the guy the Cavaliers would trade up for is Harrison Barnes, not Beal. I think they love Barnes, feel he can play some SG as well as SF, & are afraid that Charlotte may draft him at #2. I'm not sure if Charlotte's interest in Barnes is legit or not, but it seems they've tested the waters by showing interest in lots of players to then gauge the interest of the Cavaliers in trading up.

I would hate to say that Chris Grant is getting worked by MJ & Rich Cho, but that may be just what's happening here.

Please make this deal happen: anything to not get stuck with a more athletic Martell Webster errr Barnes

My fear is it's Barnes they're after, not Beal.
They loved Barnes a year ago and I doubt their opinion has changed much in a year. I think they see a guy with a pro body, who tested out very well athletically. I think they had him work out against Beal to see if he can put the ball on the floor & play some SG in the NBA. Assuming they're satisified with that, Barnes is the guy I think they want. I think they'e afraid Charlotte might take him at 32. Here's how I see their draft board:

1. Davis
2. Barnes
3. MKG
4. Beal
5. Robinson
6. Drummond

Moving up so the Cavs take Barnes doesn't really make sense for either team though. The Bobcats wouldn't do it since they seem to be really high on Barnes, and the Cavs wouldn't do it because one of Beal/MKG/Barnes would be available at 4 regardless. If they're moving up, it's probably to leapfrog washington who is pretty desperate for beal at this point.

I'm not crazy about this deal if it is true; steep price. It seems too much based on fit, which makes me wonder if they lost sight on who is the BPA. But time will tell.
As long as they don't move up to get Barnes, I'm not too upset.

In my eyes, Robinson and MKG are just as good as Beal, so I wouldn't really want that deal......

But if the Cavs think Beal is a better player/fit than anyone else, I am all for the deal. I don't and haven't ever really cared about the 24th pick. Whoever we pick at 24, we'd be lucky if they ended up being a decent contributor off the bench ala Boobie Gibson. The 24th pick is kind of a swing and pray pick that results in nothing much more often than not. At 32, you are just as likely to find a decent player IMO.

We also have 2 other picks only 8 picks later on, so what's the big deal?

If the Cavs move up to 2 and only give up 4 and 24, I am a happy man because that means the Cavs fell in love with a guy and did what it took to secure that they would land him. That sounds much better to me than taking the "left over guy" that fell to 4.

If you locked onto a certain player, you do the deal in a heartbeat. What last night showed, you need those two special players who can carry a team. If you think it is Beal over MKG, you have to roll the dice. Next year, we will still be in the lottery but nothing close to a top five pick. You need the next Wade type player to put next to Irving. TT and next year's pick may can get you a Harden or Bosh type, for a big 3 role. But, you need an All-Star that refs will look the other way and this isn't a defensive league that TT will earn that spot, same may apply with MKG. Plus, $ wise, it's best to gamble to find that superstar who gets capped at the max than 5 players who want close to max but no where near the skill level. That is why I wouldn't mind Drummond at 6 or so for the upside gamble and get another top-10 player. But, if Grant feels confident in his ability, he needs to roll the dice for his player, as 24 will be a role player and we have 3 extra firsts plus our late lottery next year to match or beat that pick. So, if Beal is next Wade, give up the 24. For me, I see Beal, MKG, and Barnes as solid almost All-star level, but not a superstar to trade for. Yet, this is why Grant gets the big $s and I just post.

Not what I wanted to hear but wasnt in the workouts and I do feel that Washington will be a competitor in the years to come.

I really don't see how this is a steep price. Sure 2-6 is on the same tier... but they all have their faults. So at that point you want the guy who is the best fit for the team. Not just an athletic player who can ball. Look at the Knicks. Great pieces, terrible fit. If you have to give up the 24 to get the guy you want. Do it. The chances that the 24th pick is going to be an impact player are slim... to none.

Not what I wanted to hear but wasnt in the workouts and I do feel that Washington will be a major competitor in the years to come. I guess MKG really cant shoot and Barnes just cant play.
