A Closer Look at Jared Sullinger

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
it is unfortunate people look at Harrelson's game and just asume that is on Sullinger. But a lot of people also just don't understand the game.

Sullinger played well defensively and offensively. It's tough when wing players for Ohio State make Jared step up in the paint and get beat on the backend. It lets unintelligent basketball fans pick him apart as some type of overrated player. Jared is going to be an Elton Brand type player. Maybe not worth a top 5 pick, but the guy has legit game.

Only idiots don't see that.

He has a legit game inside. I don't see a jumper from him nor do I see the ability for him to step out and guard the perimeter against NBA caliber 4s. I would have liked to see Derrick Williams against Sullinger just for curiosity sake as well.

I think Sullinger would struggle in the NBA against the larger players ie Howard, Perkins, Gasol, Bynum, Duncan etc. He is a throw back style player. The problem is he would be insane if he was 6'11 or 7'. He is still young and could grow a little bit more but there are deficiencies in his game that have been exposed.

Sullinger just said that he will be returning to OSU next year...whew....thank god the Cavs won't have the option to waste a top pick on his slow, fat, overrated ass. He really stuggled to score against Harrelson...a no-name white guy who will never sniff the NBA...if Harrelson can contain Sullinger, Sullinger doesn't have a chance at being much in the NBA. Most of Sullinger's points come off of cherry picking rebounds and dunking it back in....Sullinger isn't good at scoring when an equally sized defender is guarding him...when a bigger defender puts a body on him, he often gets blocked or the ball sails wildly off target...and he will be facing much bigger defenders in the NBA.

A game they lost because he couldn't draw a double team to free up the shooters around him and couldn't defend a bum center.

you do realize that sullinger cleared the lane out several times for william buford to drive inside and miss a 5 foot shot right?

Sullinger certainly did some things right and he wasn't the only reason they lost.

Buford and Sullinger and 1a and 1b in my opinion.

Weird..I thought you were the guy who said Ryan Hollins was a legit NBA player...

It's insane how badly some people actually see/understand the game in this forum.

That is disappointing....

If you know so much, how about you enlighten those of us that need it?

Sullinger had the best game of anyone on the court, but he lost the game for OSU? Makes sense.

Sullinger after the game saying he is going back to OSU. He sounds pretty serious about it to me. I know many people have said it before and then went to the draft, but I actually believe him. http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/sports/...announces-he-will-return-for-sophomore-season

Not good for the Cavs. Whether you want him or not is irrelevant. This just takes away one more good prospect and lessens the chance of us getting a good player with the Clippers pick.

I don't want Sullinger but him not declaring probably hurts us: increases the chances that a player I do want for the Cavs gets taken away.

That would be him.

Here is a freshman in college who went 7-14 and grabbed 16 boards, yet he was contained and won't amount to anything. Shall I pull up a random Derrick Williams stat line or Perry Jones stat line in one game this year and then declare he won't amount to anything? Stupid.

I've never said I wanted to take Sullinger with a top 4 pick, I don't. But to make these type of statements that greg did when the dude was easily the best player on the court for OSU is silly.

These overreactions to one game are amazing. So if Derrick Williams goes out and sucks it up vs. Uconn, we don't want him either, right?

How many plays should I point to that Sullinger had to leave his position to step up in the paint??? Is it Sullinger's fault when the Bucks run a half-court trap that leads to Kentucky breaking the pressure, and Sullinger stepping up to the free-throw line to stop the ball and an alley-oop being delivered to Harrelson??

I didn't think so...

Jared was a monster on the glass, and played his normal game which is good enough to win. Unfortunately Buford sucked, Lighty wasn't on his hot streak, Craft didn't want to pull the trigger, and even Diebler wasn't on his ridiculous hot-streak.

To blame Sullinger is full-ridiculousness, and to think any blame is on his shoulders is at least semi-stupid.

And that is fact.

Gregdawg's comments are personal and have nothing to do with how well sullinger played or did not play. It would be more constructive to get back to reasonable discourse which does nto include the word fat ass..

Sullinger did play a good game, but I think some of his weaknesses were exposed. Playing against another really big player, he did not dominate inside like he usually does. He was a factor, he scored points, grabbed rebounds, drew fouls and so on, but he did not negate Harrelson. In the NBA he is going to face players like Harrelson, although Harrelson is big even for an NBA body. So I think Sullinger has some work to do to handle that. I think he needs to be in better game shape for example. But I think he will do that work and I think he will be a factor in the NBA.

OSU lost this game because Buford and Lighty got shot happy and cold. KU is a good team, and they hit the shots. There you go.

Suggesting Sullinger was outplayed, unimpressive, or blaming the game on him last night is absurd.

He was fantastic. He was the only consistently positive thing the Buckeyes had on the court besides Diebler and Craft...who was terrific. The problem with a guy like Craft, is that much of his impact didn't show up in the box score. Sullinger was the only one that was scoring any damn points and you just can't win games where you're relying on your bigs to score in the final seconds. Wings need to be able to create AND finish in the final couple minutes of a game, with the bigs there to clean up garbage.

Let's not get ridiculous here and call Sullinger anything he wasn't...and that was excellent.

That said...there are still other guys I'd rather have over him anyways. If relying on another team "wasting" a pick on Jared Sullinger was going to make or break your 8th pick in the draft, then you don't deserve a good player with the Clips pick anyways.

Yeah, but that just means an already thin 2011 NBA draft gets even thinner. Supposedly Barnes & now Sullinger are both returning to school. Man, this is going to be the weakest draft in a looooooong time.

BTW, with the NBA looking to institute a 3 year college rule for underclassmen, similar to the NFL, the 2012 draft could be even weaker than the 2011 draft. It also means that players like Barnes & Sullinger would have to wait until 2013 to be eligible for the draft under the new CBA.
