Only in Cleveland would we get the 1st pick in the worst draft in 20 years.

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

Czovec... I have to challenge you on being the conductor of the Embiid train.

Im willing to die for the title. I had been getting KILLED since the Worlds game where everyone was still saying Wiggins and Parker were going to battle for #1. (Moreso on my Heels board but I came here with it too)

I said Embiid then, and I said that no matter what Self TRIED to do, GM's were going to see his fluidity and his raw talent and he'd be the #1 pick.

I came here on RCF and shared it a little bit, but Ive been convinced on this kid since before the season started. Its amazing watching him continue to develop. I mean... CRAZY. Someone said he has so much FUCK YOU to his game on defense, and THAT is the difference that will make him even better than Anthony Davis by his year 3/4. He has the Damian Lillard FUCK YOU but he's not a 6'3 scoring PG.

I am really hoping Deng sits it down and lets that achilles heal like he should... because without him, I think this team is still prime for suck as long as Mike Brown is allowed to mishandle them.

Id give up Waiters & TT and our first if its in the top 10 to get Embiid. Some dont understand how much of a game changer getting this dude would be. Pair him with Kyrie and get your 3 rings at least. Dominant duo starting 2016.

I truly think build wise, he will be fine as well. He'll probably be no less than Mutombo-build as a rookie.

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

He has literally everything you want in a center prospect. Ideal size, length, mobility, touch around the rim, footwork, defensive awareness, basketball IQ, fluidity, athleticism. He gets and keeps post position, he has several back-to-the basket moves when he get the ball in the post, and if he's doubled he's patient and makes the right decision nearly every time. Oh, and he's also shown a smooth jumper out to college 3pt range. Not to mention that mean streak... Jesus Christ. The way he understands the game for having only played a few years is shocking. He fouls too much at this point, but college rules are dumb and that's not a major concern going forward.

Meanwhile, we got Anthony Bennett. Timing is everything.

I have no issues ceding that role. I'm happy to be second in command here.

(By the way, just played ESPN's draft lottery machine. Cavs landed at #2 and took Joel.)

It disappoints me so much knowing that the kid is probably going to end up with the Lakers...

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

I refuse to go on there and play that...

I refuse. This is a lottery team as of now, and the only thing that will take them out of that spot is if the organization sticks with pushing for the playoffs while these other orgs start justifiably tanking for the lottery.

Quite possibly the most short sighted initiative since trading the pick that would eventually be James Worthy for a bag of peanuts. Think I'll go cry in a corner now.

I'm sitting here reading about Joel Embiid while the Cavs eke out a two-point win against the Lakers practice squad.

This makes me sad....

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

I've seldom seen a young center as all-round talented as Embiid. It's amazing, almost startling. He's got the soft hands, great footwork, a sense of spacing, ability to set up his defender, court vision as to where his teammates are, ability to play with his back to the basket, hit hook shots, steps out and hit jumpers, maybe even 3-pointers, incredible length, top tier shot blocking skills, good rebounding, a good motor, is constantly getting better, sometimes even during the course of a game....I just rarely have seen anything like it.

Maybe this will change, he'll cool off, someone else will accelerate, but right now, based on the combo of raw but varied skill and the way he's putting those many skills to use on what seems to be a constant upward trajectory of improvement, I'd take him #1 overall and not think twice about it.

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

Small thing that I'm really impressed with is the touch Embiid puts on some of his shots off the board. He'll occasionally shoot it really softly high off the board, something you don't see from most bigs. He's very raw no doubt about it, but he's just such a natural basketball player that there's no telling how much more he could improve from here.

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

Welp it was fun while it lasted. Playoffs baby! :chuckles:

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

He still fouls a ton, which is very correctable and the only knock I have on him. Dude was manning up below the halfcourt. Unreal.

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

I don't have a big issue with his fouls. Worst case scenario he just has to play a little less aggressive on that end until he figures it out. What I would question about his game is the turnovers. If anyone watched his last two games, could you give a summary of how he managed to turn it over 11 times?

A lot of young guys struggle with fouling. Look at Zeller this year. Dude looks like a man now most of the time, but he still fouls constantly. It's one of those things that corrects itself over time for most guys, and Embiid is still so young that I don't really see it as a long-term concern.

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

Could Embiid end up as a better prospect than Anthony Davis by the end of this year? He's got the same athleticism with even more size, and he's showing a much greater offensive arsenal than Davis did in college. I'm blown away by how quickly he seems to be improving, it's pretty unprecedented.

I'm in total agreement...re-read my post; I was voicing my concern about his turnovers...

...which is the same reason why I don't like him over Anthony Davis. They're very similar in most areas, but Embiid is turning the ball over three times more than Anthony Davis did in college.

That said, I do believe that Embiid is a franchise player and the best player in this draft.

EDIT: Whoa, my post got an iLTHY ad on it. Does that just happen randomly sometimes?
