Alonzo Gee: Mr. April!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Alonzo Gee: has scored ZERO four times in December

The joke is, over the past few years, this team has had 6 first round draft picks not to mention a bunch of early 2nds, an abundance of capspace, and an Owner who is willing to spend yet we still sit here with Alonzo f'ing Gee as the starting SF.

Let's not pretend like they haven't been actively tanking and holding that 3 spot open for a certain free agent to be, though.

That may be true, but then a firing needs to occur milliseconds after if he signs a contract anywhere else.

If you want to put all your eggs in that basket then you deserve to lose your job if the basket breaks.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you on that one. It's a huge gamble, but it's also blatantly obvious as to why this team still has a small forward rotation of Gee/Miles/Clark.

I think the fact that we tried to bring in Korver disputes this theory.

Plus, come on, guys...LeBron can play with anyone. If we have a good three, play him at the four. Play him at the two. Play him at the one. It really doesn't make a damn bit of difference. It's pointless to structure a team around LeBron's return because LeBron's game can literally mesh with any group of players you want to play him with.

As far as the three spot goes, let's be real here. The best three prospect in the past three years was Harrison Barnes, who hasn't been anything special. Kawhi Leonard was a good prospect as well, but was a huge reach with the fourth pick (as much as some of you want to rewrite history on that one), and I still don't think he'll be anything other than a nice role player. Oh, and then there's Otto Porter, who has looked even worse than Bennett has. Some of you act as if the drafts have been packed to the brim with can't miss small forward prospects and we just passed on all of them. That's ridiculous.

Some late round draft picks that we had the chabce to acquire are better than Gee, imo. They are not can't miss prospects but they are clearly better than our starting sf. Jeffery taylor, draymond green, jae crowder, middleton, darius miller, quincy miller, singler, parsons.

Are we really lamenting missing out on guys who weren't even great prospects? After all, we drafted Karasev, who was a much better prospect than any of the guys you listed. He's just not quite NBA ready yet.

Everything looks clear and obvious in hindsight. Not many second rounders actually pan out and become good NBA players. It's hard to find a gem in the rough in the second round.

Re: Alonzo Gee: has scored ZERO four times in December

At least they didn't sign Gee to a 5yr deal like they did Newble. That contract seemed to take 10 years to run out.

My beef with the use of 2nds isn't that we couldn't find an impact player, it's that we didn't even try. Grant just kept rolling them back and trading them away, at some point you have to try to find a solid rotational player.

A guy like Singler is actually not a bad example of what you're talking about. He's a 2nd round pick, doesn't average a ton, but is at least a competent body that Detroit brought off the bench at the SF spot tonight. A back end rotation player, but in spots actually helps a bit.

We have not used our 2nd round picks in that kind of way, and it is why it feels like we have no depth sometimes behind the front line guys.

Re: Alonzo Gee: has scored ZERO four times in December

I can't say this for sure because I don't keep tabs on every single teams SL, but as far as I know he is, by far, the worst starter in the league. It blows my mind how bad this guy is. Only reason he gets minutes is because he's our only 3... seriously. When's the last time Brown put him back in the game after his initial stint with the starting line-up? This guy brings absolutely nothing to the table. Obviously has never been a shooter, but for somebody who is labeled a slasher/defensive wing, his finishing and ball handling are pitiful, and he has the defensive skills to match.

Serious question, what facet of the game is Gee even average at? This guy is a true D-leaguer. Counting the days until this guy is no longer seeing minutes for the cavs...

Re: Alonzo Gee: has scored ZERO four times in December

I think my favorite play from the pacers game was his blown dunk put back to end the third. How can brown put this guy back in the line up? Is he daft?
