AV, Cavs agree to deal - 6yrs, $42.5 million

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
After the oxyclean guy died, that ShamWow kid was all Max had to fall back on for support. But the right head gear goes along way.

Oh God, I was just thinking about this. It's probably Wally...

YES!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont see wally being dealt with until the end of the off season. There is still the possibility of Vanhorning him into a bigger aquisition. If we dont s&t him, I am guessing he does get a 2 year contract, esentially the 2nd year for trade bait purposes only.

Anyone else feel that earthquake in Ohio? That was the collective state in a massive facepalm.

Big Men salaries for a few marginal big men like Anderson Varajeo... None are all stars (I'm aware that some are past their prime)

All values in the millions

Anderson's average is 7.1
Tony Battie 6.2

Eddy Curry 10.5

Darko Millicic 7.5

Samuel Dalembart 11.3

Brad Miller 12.2

Kenyon Martin 15.3

Mike Dunleavy 9.7

Andrew Bogut 10.0

Dan Gadzuric 6.7

Nazr Mohammed 6.5

Jermaine O'Neal 22.9

Joel Pryzbilla 6.8

Kenny Thomas 8.5

Shareef Abdul Raheem 6.7

Etan Thomas 7.3

Brian Cardinal 6.8

There are more that I could add.

I'm not saying Andy is better than everyone on this list but he is certainly not worst than everyone on this list either. Andy is getting paid in the general vacinity of what all quality big men get. To say he's over paid is very untrue seeing that the NBA in general puts a premium payment wise on big men quality or not.

The value that Andy brings to a team that has been a perenial playoff team for the past 5 years makes this deal very reasonable. Especially considering that his versatility is a key cog to the defensive machine we've been in the playoffs (except for the one Orlando series)...

Something else to consider...you see guys on the list like Jermaine O'neal making 22 mill and Kenyon Martin 15.3 while they are WAY past their prime. Andy will be 32 when the guarantees are over and 33 if he makes the final year which is partially guaranteed. The Cavs will have Andy all of his prime years unlike most of the deals that are listed...

I was arguing on another board and decided to share this with you guys...

Think Andersen; that's what Sideshow was worth.

If you're referring to "birdman" don't think for a minute that part of the reason the Nuggets got him much cheaper was because of the drug issues.

I'll piggy back off of buck and also point out the fact that Anderson is only 27. Not to mention he's been part of the core of a very successful run this team has had. I think people don't realize the fact that next to LeBron in the last 5 years he's played the most meaningful minutes for this team in the playoffs and regular season. If not in foul trouble he's always one of the last 5 on the court!

why are you people still talking about AV? He's already been signed. There's nothing to talk about

Anyone laugh at the fact the NBA is in a financial crisis, yet role players with no offense are making $42 million?

:chuckles:

HoopsHype has the deal broken down..

Name | 2009-2010 | 2010-2011 | 2011-2012 | 2012-2013 | 2013-2014 | 2014-2015 Anderson Varejao | $6,300,000 | $7,000,000 | $7,700,000 | $8,400,000 | $9,100,000 | $9,800,000 (TO)

They have it as a 5-year deal worth $38.5 million guaranteed (basically $7.7 million on average) with the possibility of it being 6-years, $48.3 million.. Last year is a team option..

Not as bad as we first thought...

I don't mean to change the topic of the salary cap going on right now, but after reading through some of this thread, I wanted to say a little something about Varejao...

I’m sure that some of you watch football.

It’s one of the main sports you can look at and say that everyone has their own role, and if everybody excels in their given assignments, then you will have a successful team. Think of Varejao as the left side of our offensive line.

When things are going really well, the receivers are able to get open, the running back has lanes to run through, and the quarterback has time to throw the ball. Sure they’ll stuff the stat sheet, but the smart fans know that all those touchdowns and yards are possible because the OL played really well.

They do the dirty work just like AV, and it makes everyone’s job easier.
