Re: My Name Is Earl ... Clark?

What would make you happy? Honest question.

I mean if Earl Clark makes you happy, more power to you. Understand, though, he's not a good basketball player. Lots of people will talk themselves into him, because it's a move, and hey we all like moves. But 4 years in, and he's not good. He's, at the very best, a back-up SF/PF on an ok team. He doesn't see the floor on a contender.

Rich is right, I see no reason to get excited about Earl Clark. He doesn't give us a definite improvement. I mean, I'm not opposed to signing him, but I'm open to someone explaining the rationale behind the excitement - because I'm not seeing it.

Didn't say it would make me happy. Stated it would be a small upgrade over Gee. Nothing major.

But I just returned to RCF and you seem to have taken the negative nancy role in every thread. Just an observation and wondering what moves by the Cavs, if any, would make you content.

Also, what type of contract is Clark looking for? Anything out there with details.

Signing players good at basketball. Earl Clark isn't one.

I mean, I won't declare it the worst move ever, but it's a sideways move. It's a toss-up between he and Gee as to which one is better.

Re: My Name Is Earl ... Clark?

Agreed. Between Gee and Felix we're pretty well stocked on bouncy wings who don't know how to play basketball already.

Re: My Name Is Earl ... Clark?

lol.. what.. Really.

What is it, dwight howard or bust?

Yea, that's it. Not being excited about Earl Clark=Wanting Dwight Howard or calling FA a bust.

Re: My Name Is Earl ... Clark?

We have a significant hole at SF and I dont see this move filling it. I would rather spend the money on a center, a back up PG, or a starting caliber SF. I have a feeling we will have to overpay for a bench/role player that we already have in Gee.

Re: My Name Is Earl ... Clark?

Yeah I'm with Rich. No point in pretending to be excited about signing expendable role players every Summer.

Re: My Name Is Earl ... Clark?

Based on his career to date, I completely understand those who are not excited at the potential of adding Clark.

But, to his credit, when Pau was out last year, Clark put up substantially better numbers and made several improvements from his earlier years. A small sample size for sure, but a sign of what he can do. Once Pau, Artest, and Howard were all healthy again, Clark's minutes did dry up.

As sad as this is, I also view Clark as better than anyone we started out with on out bench last year. As long as people understand he is a bench signing and adjust their expectations accordingly, I would have no problem with him as part of an NBA quality bench.

Re: My Name Is Earl ... Clark?

Yeah I mean...cool, we might sign Earl Clark. He's a decent role player.

Re: My Name Is Earl ... Clark?

I just hope this wasn't the aggression Grant was alluding to in post-draft interviews.

I don't mind him though, I just hope this isn't our biggest addition.

I'd take him for a couple years around a few mil per. I'm not sure what he's expecting to get though. He didn't do much until last year when the Lakers had next to no options.

Re: My Name Is Earl ... Clark?

The weakest part of our team last year was the bench. Sure Clark isn't going to be a star but he improves our biggest weakness. No reason to hate on the guy. No reason to get too excited either. Everything is so black and white on this board lately. Bennett is a stud, Bennett is the worst player I've ever seen. Have a beer everyone. :chuckles:

Re: My Name Is Earl ... Clark?

I don't get it. Earl Clark did play very well when Pau was sidelined. But, he was not effective once Pau returned. Additionally, like Pau, he is PF. Between TT, Andy, Bennett....we ought to have PF covered quite well. Earl Clark is not a SF. How many out of position SFs (Bennett and Clark) do we want on our roster?
