well yes they were sophs and frosh at one point but I think he meant none were 1 and done players in college. Landry and Dudley were seniors when drafted while Smith and Williams were Juniors.

I'm sure it's all going to depend on what the coaching staff feels Hickson is ready for. Obviously, he's going to be coming off the bench for at least 1 year and probably 2.

Here's what other big men picked in Hickson's range last year got in terms of minutes per game last year.

Sean Williams: 17.5 MPG
Jason Smith: 14.5 MPG
Jared Dudley: 19.0 MPG
Carl Landry: 16.9 MPG

Ideally you would like to see Hickson playing 10-15 minutes a night this year but it's all going to depends on what he's ready for.

I'd love that -- it's been so long since we've seen some young blood from the draft come into the lineup and give us some excitement. There's just something about a draft pick getting PT compared to a free agent signing getting PT.

I know, it's been over a year since Boobie lit up Detroit as a rook...

Sean Williams: 17.5 MPG----21 year old sophmore (off team junior year)
Jason Smith: 14.5 MPG ----- 21 year old junior
Jared Dudley: 19.0 MPG----- 22 year old senior
Carl Landry: 16.9 MPG ------ 42 year old 6th year senior (purdue humor)

If you expect to play next year you will be disapointed. Hickson is not ready. Just pointing out the age and how much more experience the players you are trying to compare JJ too. Not saying I dont like the pick, I do, but this pick will not have immediate dividends. Besides whos minutes does he get? Wallace's? Z's? Smith's? I am sure we will sign a devin brown level free agent too, and will play Lebron some at 4. Plus we might have AV until Dec 5th....the trade blocking bastard.

But, back to my response to your post ...Koufos could have easily been the choice ...the decision to go Hickson wasn't a 100% lock ...

You make it sound like we were pretty locked in to finding our "bulldog", though. As you can see even on this board, it's really hard to change inertia once a group decides they need a certain thing.

Koufas wouldn't have been that "bulldog" but he would have potentially been a replacement for Z somewhere down the line - unless Hickson gets on Ben Wallace's weight training program or something ...

If the kid can play, he'll be out there. Regardless of age. Who knows, maybe Darnell Jackson is the guy who comes in and contributes. Everyone seems to have forgotten about the guy, but all star caliber players have been drafted later.

That said, I dont expect either to play much. But from Hicksons game, His length, defense and finishing ability around the rim seem to hint that he or Jackson will see any of the spot minutes Dw Jones used to get. If either is successful with those minutes im sure they can earn more.

If we ship out any of our bigs and dont get a big back, one of the draftees will definitely play.

Couple of tidbits:

Easy decision

The Cavs said they had no problem passing on 7-foot-1 forward/center Kosta Koufos with the No. 19 pick.

''It was not a hard decision on the night of the draft,'' Cavs assistant general manager Chris Grant said. ''We talked it all out and had our order. You just go down the board and mark them off.

''It's not emotional. You've done your work.''

Ferry said he explored moving up in the first round, but was unable to get anything done.

- Hickson's wingspan is about 7-1, four or five inches longer than he is tall. Grant referred to it being ''plus-4 or plus-5.''

- The Cavs did like Kansas shooting guard Brandon Rush, but knew it was going to be next to impossible to get him at 19.

- Yes, Georgetown center Roy Hibbert was high on their list as well.

''We liked his skill set,'' Grant said. ''He's big. We didn't think he was going to get to us.''

Hibbert was drafted No. 17 by Indiana.

- Grant said the Cavs felt they had to tap into the vast arsenal of big men in the draft.

''(French forward/center Alexis) Ajinca was interesting,'' Grant said. ''(Rider's Jason) Thompson was not a big surprise at 12 (to Sacramento).''

Good stuff.. I can't wait to see who turns out to be the better pro between Hibbert, Koufos and Hickson...

Hibbert should get the most time early on since Indy is thin up front...

Koufos has the luxury of playing in a system that should benefit his skillset, and having all star caliber players around him..

As for Hickson, and playing for coach Brown and his system ??? lol...Good luck, kid..

Couple of tidbits:

Koufos had some definite support amongst some ...to me it would have been interesting to see what we would have ultimately done of Hibbert was still on the board along with Hickson .... a few days before the draft I was given the impression, and had the definite feeling that Hibbert was going to be the pick if he was there at 19... But amongst those three you had three different dimensions of big men.

One was a pretty rounded out and ready to go pure center, one was a finesse big that would have had a herd time adjusting to the inside toughness in the NBA, but who had alot of interesting aspects ...then Hickson who is your tough inside scorer/rebounder that projects as a pure PF.

I think they ultimately got the best of the three options ...this draft would have been perfect for me, personally, if we could have landed George Hill or CDR...

This is way off topic, but Wine and Gold, is there any way that we could set up a forum where it is just question and answer time with you in which you only post select questions and respond to them, or maybe like something where its one question max per user. It would be greatly appreciated. Just a thought....

Agreed. I was ready to hear that the Cavs traded for one of Seattle's picks to get CDR, and then I would've been estatic. Still, I like Hickson over Koufos and Hibbert.

Question.....if CDR had been there at 52, would the Cavs have had Miami select him or would they have stayed with Jackson?

Im not sure where to put this, And didn't want to make a new thread for it alone...But does anybody have the Cavs summer league roster?

I see Jamar got picked up by the Nets summer league squad
