Cavs made offer for Aldridge

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
wholeheartedly agree AMC, if Minny is out of the playoff race come trade deadline time , perfect time to swoop him up

Exactly. Similar to how the Rockets waited for Harden to be available (not the similar contract situation, but patience with assets.)

Posted this in the Radio thread, thought I would put it here for relevance.

To be completely honest, I say we wait and see how the new look Wolves play before we use up our assets. I just have a feeling we need to be prepared for the eventual availability of Kevin Love.

LMA is good, but I think Love can be a lot better.
I believe this is what I told you awhile back about waiting and saving the assets. :chuckles:

But you're definitely correct. You never know if the Wolves will change their minds on Love, but as of now it's not going to happen.

Except the Rockets weren't patient. They tried to blow all their assets on Pau Gasol, and were only saved when David Stern intervened. They just got incredibly lucky that Sam Presti decided to sell low on Harden last summer.

Minnesota has only furthered my prediction that they'll be a fledgling, middling team again next season. The makeup of the team just really screams cluster fuck/ island of misfit toys.

Their major personnel moves were to blow a ton of money bringing in Kevin Martin, Chase Buddinger, and Nickola Pekovic......... none of those players will drastically change the makeup of how things go over there. To add to that, they drafted Shabazz Muhammad out of the draft, so that's basically subtraction by addition.

Pekovic will only take you so far, especially because he lacks length to alter shots. He's a space eating bruiser who has no game outside of 3 feet. He's also going to be paid handsomely. I'd like to know how much he's paid relative to Larry Sanders. Sanders definitely has a much greater impact on the game with his ability to alter shots. Pek is simply a bruiser who defends by denying position, being strong on the block and generally just being a physical presence. He's like a Serbian Kendrick Perkins.

Then you throw Derrick Williams into the rotation and the cluster is fucked. A lot of confusion over there, and I doubt Minnesota has the game-plan to get all those wheels spinning to playoff level. Kevin Love is smart.

Maybe the Wolves will make the playoffs, but will they ever be a contender with their roster? No.

I don't think they have the pieces either to land a really big fish to play next to Kevin Love. Ricky Rubio's a nice player, but I doubt he could net you an all-star in return. If they package multiple players with Rubio, who else is really that attractive on the Wolves roster?

I doubt they ever get another all-star next to Kevin Love.

I doubt their roster as presently constructed is capable of contending. No, wait I know that to be factual.

i still have no idea why anyone thinks portland would want andy in an aldridge deal.

Well their failure to make deals will be substituted by our patience this time. :chuckles:

He is more of a talented expiring contract at this point. Similar to Chris Kaman's inclusion in the Chris Paul trade.

I'd rather give up Bennett than Thompson, plus Andy, along with somebody like Gee and then the SAC pick or something like that.

I'm certainly no expert, but I would have no problem unloading Thompson when compared to Bennett. I just don't see the potential with TT.

Guess you're just not looking hard enough.

Thompson has the ability to be a pretty good defender in this league down-low on the block, especially with Mike Brown as his head coach. Thompson also has been working hard on his offensive game, applying work towards his hook shot and has recently gone back to his right hand, as Max mentioned in the Tristan Thompson thread.

Some people are seriously going to be surprised on how well Thompson plays this upcoming year. He's not going to be on the Aldridge or Kevin Love level, but he's going to produce enough for this team to win.

Plus with Tristan's work ethic and athleticism his ceiling is basically sky high.

They don't need Pekovic to do that. They have Kevin Love to space the floor.

One note with Minnesota as with the Cavs, I like the dynamic of their team but much of their success is dependent on how healthy each respective team is during the course of the season.

Minny has 17 listed on the roster, not including Robbie Hummel, who has had a very good summer league. They have some moves to make yet this offseason.
