Cleveland Browns 2017 Training Camp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
MchNichols is such a great prospect the he will most likely get cut as a rookie on a team without an established RB (Bucs are looking for any reason to cut Martin, but will have to keep him by default). Come on now.

Without an established RB? They have three established RBs. All indications are that they like Martin and have been impressed by him in camp. Similarly, Sims is an established, successful NFL running back who has always looked good when Martin has been out. And Rodgers is very good as well, and has proven NFL success.

McNichols had the misfortune of getting drafted by a team that was stacked at RB and he also missed part of camp due to his shoulder injury.

If you don't think McNichols is a good prospect, I don't know what to tell you. He had damn near identical production to Doug Martin in college, and profiles similarly to Melvin Gordon. He's a fantastic prospect.

He may be a good prospect, but Dayes has done everything and more that the coaches and FO has asked of him and has earned the 3rd running back slot because of it. I am all for getting McNicols if we decide to keep 4 RBs otherwise we aren't taking him over Dayes. Honestly I wouldn't even be surprised if Dayes takes over the starting job next season if Crowell leaves (and don't say it's not possible since Crowell was an undrafted guy)

Honestly have you watched Dayes play in the preseason?

His combine 40 was a bit concerning, but from what i read he has a great burst.

From the eye test he has been great, but a 4.66 does scare me a bit.

That said if he makes the squad no harm no foul. Give him a look, if he has vision and good one cut quickness, you keep him, if not, you draft someone next year. (especially when Kizer proves he is a number 1 QB, lol)

The numbers I'm looking at says he has a 102.1 burst score, which as mentioned is 0th percentile.

I looked up a bunch. They say he has lateral quickness, so i wonder where they are getting that score from. The 40 time was slow, especially for a smaller back.

The numbers seem a bit off since you are saying he has horrible lateral quickness and 4 or 5 sites i looked at called it a strength.

Burst score is a combined measurement of a player's broad and vertical jumps, equally weighted.

By the way, Dayes has a 4th percentile SPARQ score. I'm pretty sure I could notch a higher score than that. :chuckle:

28 inch verticle will do that with a 108 broad jump but his quickness is nice.

Maybe he had a bad jump or two?

Out of shape for the combine because of a minor injury?

Maybe, but he also has a bad 40 time (14th percentile), a bad size adjusted speed score (7th percentile), and a terrible agility score (15th percentile), so it's probably just a case of him being a shit athlete but a decent football player.

Other guys have overcome JAG athleticism. Spencer Ware is one. If Kareem Hunt succeeds, he'll be another. Granted, both are better athletes than Dayes, but still. Some guys are just good at football and can overcome athletic limitations. Other guys can't.

I'd prefer to place my bets on a better prospect, though, which is why I'd be all in favor of McNichols over Dayes. Dayes just strikes me as a low-ceiling guy. Nothing wrong with that, but given Crowell's uncertain future I wouldn't mind taking a shot on a much better prospect if he's cut from a team that's stacked at RB.

I understand where you come from, probably should have had a better post like this explaining, but i got it once i looked up his combine stats.

He has looked good, odd pick considering his metrics and us being a metric team, maybe something else stuck the front office about him that is worth keeping around unless a better rb gets cut.

Yeah, it was an odd pick. Perhaps they liked his attitude and work ethic? Probably didn't expect him to get much burn with Duke and Crowell on the team anyway.

I'd take McNichols on the practice squad without a doubt. I don't think Dayes has done anything to lose his roster spot, we are set as long as the Browns stay healthy.

There are guys though who are better when they are between the lines and some guys who are just better in the gym than they are on the field. Dayes feels like he is the first one. His times on the field/during game will be better than he will ever show in a combine type of test.

Jack is probably right, the lack of athletic ability probably will show against first teamers.

I like Dayes, but it didnt take much research on my part to realize he is not athletic at all. If he was a big back, sure.

That said, he is worth a spot until someone better comes along which might be before the offseason is even over.

Eye test shows a good back so lets see if he can do it if his number is called!
