Damn, Jimmy G this is some serious good quarterbacking.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Patriots either didn't want him in the AFC or he didn't want to come to Cleveland. My bet is on the latter. I find it extremely difficult to accept that our FO wouldn't have made a better offer than SF with all the assets we do have.

There's probably a little bit of the Patriots not wanting him in the East, probably a lot of honoring Garoppalo's wishes since they are splitting on good terms. It's clear the Patriots don't want to be accused of marketing a trade after the first team makes an offer. If they did come to Cleveland after the Niners made an offer, it would have been better for the Patriots as far as assets but it would break trust with Lynch and the Niners front office.

It's being speculated that Robert Kraft stepped in, strong armed Belichick to move Jimmy G because he wants Brady to retire as a Patriot.

I guess Brady's camp felt after last season, that Belichick might try to move him.

Nothing concrete, but wouldn't surprise me if that's how it went down.

Belichick doesn't hold onto sentimental very much.

I think NE made a mistake personally. Brady is great, but he's 40 years old. Jimmy G has 10-14 years in him.

I would have stuck with Brady, and then part ways with him at the end of the year and move forward with Jimmy.

It's not easy finding a QB.

Well, I promise you one thing: Life isn't going to be easy for Jimmy G ending the year. The Niners have two good offensive tackles, a fullback, one decent receiver, and the rest of the offense is a nuclear wasteland. Hyde never made the franchise confident. The receiving weapons as a team lead the NFL in drops. Kittle has tools, but it hasn't worked out yet with all those drops. The interior of the line is the worst in the NFL. The next eight games will probably make Browns fans take a deep breath as he struggles mightily.

I'm not even sure why everyone just assumes he's going to be amazing. Every other Brady back-up has been varying degrees of dog shit. It's possible he could be the exception, but let's not forget that he's replacing another failed Brady back-up.

Hoyer signed up for a bad situation, but he taught the Shanahan offense to the other players in exchange for first crack at maintaining the starting gig. His lack of mobility specifically hurt him with two guards and a center that don't belong in the NFL. The media scapegoated him for the impatience to start watching Beathard, and I was like: "Oh y'all don't even know." Then Beathard looked like a ball boy within three quarters of making this offense try and look respectable. The problem was about 10-20% Hoyer's inconsistencies... but the rest isn't getting any help this year.

Garoppalo is a blue chip prospect who is entering his prime with lots of grooming, and he should be the unquestionable starter in 2018...but what I'm saying is that this year the offense has gigantic holes that 1980 Joe Montana wouldn't be able to cover up.

You do love you some Hoyer. At his best, though, he's basically a replacement level QB. He's subpar. Mediocre. And that's when he's at his best. At his worst, he's unplayable.

I will agree that Jimmy is a much better prospect than Hoyer has ever been, but that's still not exactly a guarantee of success, and the Tom Brady back-up tree has mostly produced those fruits that smell like farts.

Well, should I write the main point in a third post in a row, hoping it isn't missed? No, I'm good. My point is out there. Take it or leave it, but you'll see.

All of Brady's backups weren't as gifted, and drafted as high as Garoppolo.

Should have been a first round draft pick.

He dropped, the Pats saw that, and couldn't resist not taking him that high, even though Brady still had a lot left.

The question is why didn't the Browns? Never mind, that's not an honest question.

We needed party boy Manziel.

Franchise is a fucking joke. Wasn't that the same draft they had to get to bed early?

Shanahan told the Niners press that he had Carr and Garoppalo ranked number one and two in the 2014 draft when he was the Browns OC... Then the "front office" took Johnny.

I have this growing suspicion that the Front Office looks at free agency and trading with the same mind set. They make an offer and stick with it. Guys like Schwartz and Pryor try to get more on the open market then come back to the Browns when it doesn't work out and the Browns pull their offer. I feel like that's what happened with Garoppolo.

Even Pettine wanted Carr. Gotta say, what an awful selection. I think it's safe to say, even in a very little sample size, Garappalo has shown a hell of a lot more than Manziel ever did.

Sometimes it's like they're trying to pick the wrong QBs on purpose.
