Diet and Workout Routines

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyone have a functional trainer at home? It's pretty expensive ($2k) but those that have them, worth it? Seems like they are really versatile.

The closest I have to a functional trainer is my Total Gym. And I use it more now, because I hate working out at the gym I work at. I haven't worked out in the gym in over 2 months. I'm leaning out because of the Total Gym. I love Chuck Norris!

Why do power lifters think they own the gym? Your fat with skinny legs. Get off my bench, I'm doing more then 3 reps.

I would highly recommend What The Health on Netflix. Newer different version of Forks and Knives. Goes way deeper than wieght loss. I have been about 90 percent plant fruit, and seed base since late march. I lost about 24 pounds and I am doing things phyisicaly like I was in my mid 20s. I am 37, so this is pretty amazing. I am sure there are differing opinions but this documentary is def worth your time.

I had it on in the background, but couldn't finish the entire thing.

What exactly do they recommend people eat in order to maintain a healthy diet? Do they ever get into this?

I feel like every time I sat down to watch they were shooting down something else.
Beef- nope
Chicken- nope
Milk/dairy- nope
Fish- nope

I hope to get some time to finish it this week

Plants.

They want veganism.

Probably can find on CL if you wait long enough. This brings to mind a lot of things:

-A gym membership should be around $1/day and will likely yield a greater spectrum of yoga pants asses and a bit of a social scene. IIRC, for a newly single guy like you, that'd be my personal recommendation.
-If I were going to divvy up $2K to spend on equipment, I'd get a set of adjustable dumbells, a barbell with 225 lbs of weight, and a solid bench. I'd then look for a local trainer who emphasized that they cover both fitness and nutrition, and I would pay them once to come over and clean out your pantry & fridge, give you a list of good snacks/meals, then develop a full-body workout routine that you could do in conjunction with cardio. It takes 21 days to build a habit, so really the critical thing is getting into a rhythm with adding fitness/nutrition to your life.
--There's very few things that are as important as your mental/emotional/physical health. If a $2K machine makes you work out even 1 more time per week, that's totally worth it.

Excellent advise. Thanks @natedagg

I don't think it is realistic for everyone to switch to a plant based diet 100 percent of the time slash vegan. But I am seeing more and more veggie and vegan meals pop up at restaurants. I think what you will see over the next 20 years is more younger people limiting animal based foods compared to previous generations. This movie was not as detailed as Forks over Knives by the way.

But both featured a cardiologist from the cle clinic who has made it his life goal to get people to consume less animal based foods due to higher risk of cancer and serious heart disease.

There are lots of trends, it doesn't mean they're right. Gluten-free was huge for awhile. There are many vegan places in San Diego popping up. Their patrons look like they're dying.

Word of advice. Don't go with a fucking plant based diet.

I am not vegan nor do you recommend it as a full go system. But limiting animal foods and eating more veggies is going to make you healthier in the long run. I still have some seafood once or twice a week. But I have to say losing 26 pounds and swimming and playing basketball in the Tampa area during the summer in my late 30's is not something I could have done last summer when I ate a ton of chicken beef and dairy. I would write more but ironically I am about to go for a bike ride.

What do your daily meals look like? Would you mind posting some examples?

Im never going to give up meat, but am curuous as to what you're eating on a daily basis. I'm trying to incorporate more veggies into my routine.

They should essentially replace simple carbs. So stir fry instead of sandwiches

I'm not a sandwich guy. Typically, I eat eggs (mostly whites) and some fruit in he morning. My lunch consists of grilled chicken with a salad and dinner is a protein with a side. My snacks between meals is a handful of almonds and maybe some string cheese. I'll throw down a couple protein smoothies as well. My diet isn't perfect, but it's not awful.

I'm just curious to find out more about about how he uses veggies. If it isn't a salad or steamed broccol/carrots with dip- I have no idea what to do with vegetables. That's about all I eat with them, like to expand a bit.
