Draft Trade Speculation and Rumors

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You used 2 first rounders on Granger assuming we already have Marion and took the time to type "N-Squared."

:chuckles:

Indy is going to have to pay David West big money this offseason, then give Paul George to MAX next year, plus make a decision Lance Stephenson AND upgrade at PG. Danny Granger will practically be given away. In no scenario do you need to and especially want to give up one top 20 pick(let alone 2) for Danny Granger.

Ive said this a million times, and people always think Im crazy. This offseason the Pacers are at $48 million without West, Hansbrough,& Augustin. Not to mention Granger plays the same position as their new franchise player. Why not shed Granger, and drop to $34 mil and either resign your guys or spend and get different free agents. Al Jefferson would be a pretty good fit as PF. I know hes slow footed, but Hibbert & Al Jeff would be perfect complements.

As for Love:
The reason no one can see a Love trade is because it would require a 3rd team, and the fact Flip Saunders has come to Minnesota. If you knew a 3rd team was available, it would be more clear. Love wants to make the playoffs, but tell me how they make the playoffs in West with this competition, even if healthy:

OKC
San Antonio
Denver
Clippers
Memphis
GSW
Lakers
Houston
Utah
Dallas
Portland
and possibly NOH with the right 1st rounder.

How the hell does Minnesota make it? They cant. If they resign Pekovic, they are going to be over the cap. That alone does not make them a playoff team. They still need a SG and better depth. So Love will bitch and demand a trade. Why not trade him now, get better assets?

Im just kind of spit balling. I know there are holes, but Im trying to combine multiple rumors. Financially it all works.

Cavs send:
Tristan Thompson
#19
#34
#31
Mo Speights

Dallas Sends
#13
Shawn Marion

Minnesota sends
Kevin Love

Cavs Gets
Kevin Love
Shawn Marion

Dallas Gets
$9 mil cap relief
#31 & #34

They still have Mayo, Carter, Dirk & other rooks under contract.

Minnesotta Gets
#13
#19
Tristan Thompson
Mo Speights

Can use 2 of their 3 picks to move up.

#13, Shawn Marion to Cleveland for #33, #31! Get it done Grant!

#1 NN
#13 Adams
#19 Snell or Bullock

2013-2014 depth chart:
PG: Irving / Linvingston (?)
SG: Waiters / Ellington / Miles
SF: Marion / Gee / Bullock
PF: TT / NN
C: Varejao / Zeller / Adams

With AV, Marion's 9M expiring and all those young bigs we're in a perfect position to pull off a deal for a young star next season, depending on what the situation is in Atlanta (Horford), Minnesota (Love), Sacramento (Cousins), etc...

I could see ATL fail in free agency, send us Horford for TT and picks and tank hard for Wiggins... Who said pipedream?:chuckles:

The Wolves are gonna want the #1 pick for Love I'm afraid.

I think it's best to draft well and watch the situation unfold. If Minnesota comes up short again next season, disgruntled Love will be much easier to get I'm guessing. The right deal will come along. Look at the Rockets. They drafted all these prospects, failed to trade for Howard and then hit the jackpot with Harden.

If we draft well I can't see anybody with more assets than us.

N^2? Is that better (or worse)? Superscript help anyone?

The reason I traded both first round picks was because I wanted to get our salaries as close to $58 million as possible. I was afraid that keeping one of them would put us over the cap.

Also, maybe I need to move on from the old CBA and get over my fascination with expiring contracts!

Just realized, TT and NN playing together would be TNT!!

ill see myself out

Thats actually a good plan. Especially if we accumulate expirings.

Disclaimer: This is puuuuuuuuuure speculation based on limited knowledge of the CBA. Also, I used the "hoopshype" NBA Salaries page.

Okay, follow me here:

Trade 1:

Dallas gets: Picks 31, 33

Cleveland gets: Pick 13, Shawn Marion, Vince-sanity

Why it works for Dallas: They clear over $12 million in cap space. Gives them the ability to make a run at two max free agents, whether that's D12, CP3, or Jennings.

Why it works for us: We get over $12 million in EXPIRING CONTRACTS (my favorite thing in the NBA). Marion can fills the SF spot for a year. We also acquire the 13th pick, which we could then package with the 19th pick to move up in the lottery.

Our updated cap space: Including the $12 million from Marion and Vince, and with the $5.5 million from our #1 pick, we're at: $44 million (I did NOT include our Qualifying offers to Omri and Ellington in this calculation).

In the case that we do not want to use those picks, we can trade them to:

Trade 2:

Indy gets: Picks 13, 19

We get: Danny Granger

Why it works for Indy: They are a solid playoff team without Granger this year. He is an expiring contract, and would most likely walk after the end of next year anyways.

Why it works for us: We get yet another expiring contract of $14 million! Also, I believe the cap is $58 million, so $44+14 = $58. And, we add another small forward to our team. By trading the picks, we don't have to worry about them counting against our cap.

So, our team would be (assuming we take N-Squared with the first pick):

PG: Kyrie, Random Vet, Waiters
SG: Waiters, VC, Granger
SF: Marion, Granger, VC
PF: TT, N-Squared, Andy
C: Andy, Zeller, N-Squared

Please feel free to tell me how "this will never happen". I know it won't. The Hoopshype salaries page is fun though!

I'm right there with you on trade #1, but it can only happen if Dallas is pretty sure they've got 2 max guys coming. 9 millio is a lot to pay for #13 though. I would have to assume it would be a 3 way trade. No way we're making 5 picks in this draft. Something like a trade with Sacto, or Detroit could work, possibly.

No way this happens at #1! Smokescreen all the way and smart since it will help us if we are really trying to trade the #1 pick.

NBA Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz Surrounding Potential Draft Moves
By Tim Keeney(Featured Columnist) on May 23, 2013

Technically, the 2013 NBA draft order is official after Tuesday night's lottery.

But it's not really official.

There is still over a month until draft night, and with a class that features zero can't-miss prospects and slightly underwhelming depth throughout, certain teams will find themselves with several options.

Do they fill depth-chart needs by staying where they are in the draft? Do they simply take the best player available, regardless of need? Or do they just trade out of their current spot and limit their participation in the lacking draft?

Just a day after the lottery, it appears the No. 1 pick is already on the block, and as we get closer to June 27, that trend will only heat up.

Let's take a look at teams already shopping draft picks.

Mavericks Clearing Space

Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks aren't used to being in the lottery, and they clearly don't like it.

It has been a whopping 13 years since the Mavs had a lottery pick. In 2000, they selected Etan Thomas with the No. 12 overall selection, and he played a staggering zero games for them before being traded a year later.

In fact, ever since the Mavericks landed Jim Jackson, Jamal Mashburn and Jason Kidd with consecutive top-five picks in the mid-90's, the lottery has been quite icky to them.

Therefore, it's not surprising to hear they are trying to move far away from this year's:

Chad Ford ✔ @chadfordinsider
Hearing from multiple sources that Mavs likely to trade the No. 13 pick. Want to save cap space for Dwight Howard run ...9:42 PM - 21 May 2013

It makes sense. Along with the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets, Dallas is thought to be a top contender for Dwight Howard, the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent, according to CBS Sports' Ken Berger.

Mark Cuban already has quite a bit of cap space opened up for this summer, and there's talk that Dirk Nowitzki will take a pay cut, but trading the No. 13 pick would let the Mavs avoid the cap hold of around $1.6 million that the picks comes with.

Hawks Moving Up

The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly thinking about turning their back-to-back first-round picks into one super pick.

Sam The Bullshit Whisperer of FOX Sports Ohio has the news:

The Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks are said to be two such teams, with both supposedly exploring the idea of improving their draft position.

The Hawks own back-to-back picks in the first round (Nos. 17 and 18), and may be willing to package them together for the sake of moving up, insiders said.

Larry Drew's squad will undoubtedly be one of the most compelling to watch this summer.

They have an astounding seven role players hitting unrestricted free agency, including Josh Smith, Devin Harris, Zaza Pachulia and Kyle Korver. With a mere $18.5 million on the books for next season, they are going to make a serious push towards Howard and Chris Paul.

Still, while Atlanta could very well end up with a mega team, it could just as easily miss out on the superstar free agents and be left preparing for the future with scraps.

With that in mind, it would probably be in their best interest to keep both first-rounders.

It obviously depends on what kind of interest is out there, but there is very little talent difference between, say, the late lottery and their picks (Nos. 17 and 18). If the Hawks don't think they can lure Howard or Paul (free agency starts four days after the draft), they would be inclined to add as much youth as possible and treat 2013-14 as a rebuilding year.

Blazers Looking for Immediate Help

With Damian Lillard, Wes Matthews, Nicolas Batum and LaMarcus Aldridge all locked up for at least two more seasons, the Portland Trail Blazers have a very good starting lineup, 1 through 4.

However, incumbent center J.J. Hickson is set to hit free agency, and the Blazers are saying their goodbyes.

Second-year big man Meyers Leonard will be there to fill his spot, but he is more of an option for the future. If the Blazers want to contend right away—which they should with three legitimate stars—they'll need to upgrade the 5 for now:

The Trail Blazers are actively looking for help at center and appear willing to trade their lottery pick for immediate help and depth.3:22 PM - 16 May 2013

Portland's No. 10 pick will garner a lot of suitors. Not only could the Blazers potentially land an immediate starter, but they could use it to free up cap space and go after a big-time free agent.

Why wouldn't we consider Porter? Not news at all... We severly need a small forward. We should be considering many people in the early stages... I just don't see how that is news.

3 way idea

Some variation of-

Cavs trade 1, 19, give Kings pick back
Cavs get 3/7

Kings trade Boogie to Wizards 7 to Cavs
Kings get #1 pick, 19th pick, future pick back from Cavs

Wizards Trade #3 to Cavs
Wizards get cousins.

Cavs draft Porter or Oladipo and Len or Bennett.
