Frye to Suns 2/yr $3.8 mill (pg. 37)

As far as the starting 5 goes, I say that the Cavaliers match up well against the NBA Elite. At this point it's Ferry's job to improve the bench and give the coaching staff the ability to have line-up diversity.

He's Making strides. Not every player is going to want to play for the Cavs / Mike Brown. Fans need to get over that. But there will be players, either in free agency or via trade.

Right now another 60 win season isn't unreasonable. Which means that I think the Cavaliers will have another deep playoff run, to the finals this time (according to me).

The Cavaliers have made net improvement without losing core / key players that made them what they were last season. That's what people need to key on.

Not sure who Davis on the Magic is. I think they start Nelson/Carter/Pietrus/Lewis/Howard. And to be honest, I think the Magic are looking at 5th in the East, they are in the toughest division, and I expect the Bulls to get 4th.

I am starting to think Danny did not make a hard push for him. I think we want to have minutes available for both JJ and Darnell. If it does not work out, we have options towards the trade deadline next season.

I'm much more bummed to hear that Orlando offered Bass a 4 year full MLE deal. They're stronger with that, and they preferred younger players, meaning they're not scared of spending money.

We could have negotiated some sort of sign and trade with Toronto in the Parker deal so we could keep our Full MLE to offer to... Brandon Bass, but we didn't and thus were out of position to negotiate.

Blah.

And we miss on Channing Frye because of location and opportunity, not $ (because we couldn't offer moreeeeeeeee)

I agree that Orlando just improved a tad, and they also have another 7M in cash to play with based on that sign and trade if it does go through as planned.

I'm not concerned however as there is plenty of time this off season, and knowing Ferry is busy pulling the wool over others as we speak.

What else could he do? Get on his knees and beg? The guy came to Cleveland. They must've been higher on him than we thought. Ferry can't help it he's from Arizona, and likes it there.

Channing Frye is not keeping us from a championship.

This reminds me of the grumbling that happened after Sarunas signed with the Pacers. What are we stressed about? If Channing Frye were a spot on the Monopoly board, he'd be Vermont Ave, at best.

(I'm too tired to delete that awful analogy.)

Im just not sure who, other then Wally, Ferry would trade. Sure I can see him letting Kinsey go in a trade, does he have the balls to trade boobie? Theres no way I see him trading JJ Eyenga or Green. Maybe a 3way sending Wally to a team that needs to get out of the Red? Because we really dont have much to offer in a trade. And for once, Id like to see us get a pick back, instead of sending one away.

Its a bit off topic but.....

This was supposedly Ferry's biggest off-season of his career as a GM. Im not freaking out just YET...

But at the end of the day, if we come away with a 37 year old Shaq on a one year deal, a 34 year old Parker, a late 30's Joe Smith and a late 30's Wally S, can we really step back from that and say,

"wow, Ferry really stepped up to the plate and proved how amazing he is"???

I mean, I know we need to look at things in perspective of what we have available to us monetarily under the cap and the FAs that exist, but Jesus, if this is the best we can do (trades included) then I'm just not satisified. If this whole salary cap drop didnt come to light, I'd be considering freaking out seeing the moves LA, SA, and BOS have made...

Thoughts?

BTW, I am a Ferry supporter, I guess I was just expecting bigger things from the draft to Free Agency to trades this offseason...(the summer to make our pitch to LBJ)

He significantly upgraded a team that went 66-16 and was 2 Rashard Lewis misses from the NBA Finals.

I am so sick and tired of the doom and gloom sky is falling BS.

Av and shaq is not a great duo. Av will really need to work not only a jump shot but some type of quick jump hook. I think our starting PF will come via trade. Frey is not an all-star so I am not going to kill my weekend because of this. We really need to look at Boozer if you ask me. he has an expiring contract, and Utah is still trying to trade him. I dont think we have the pieces they want to make the deal though.

He needs to abandon that lame as hand sideways form that he has because there is no way he can ever be consistent "shooting" like that.We need a shooting coach and we need a big man coach.

Didnt say the sky was falling...But you are looking at this team through rose colored glasses.

We didnt go to the finals last year. We lost to a team that got pummeled by a team that improved (like we did) in the offseason.

66 wins is great, trust me...But it's ok to be critical even when you are successful. You can always get better (LA won the championship and they got better).

Ill say it again, Im a Ferry supporter, but is this it? Really? This is the push to keep Lebron?

Clearly the WHOLE organization has breaked its back to keep Lebron, but Im just not blown away by our off season aquisitions...that is all.

As much as Channing Frye getting away might suck for some, let's not forget something: he would have been our 4th big here (behind Z, Shaq and Andy) and possibly even further behind that with LeBron and others playing small ball.. So really, we're looking at a guy who would have played 16-20 minutes a game here and it's questionable whether or not he would have contributed much...

We may have offered more money for Frye, but this move makes a lot more sense to stay in Phoenix... He gets more minutes, will get better stats, gets to go back home, etc., while having an option for next year... Sure he could have won a championship this year but I don't think that's really on the mind's of many 26 year olds (IIRC his age); they'd rather go somewhere where they can better their career..

As much as he would have filled a need, I'm not going to freak out over it... At the end of the day, there's not a ton of difference between a Linas Kleiza, Joe Smith, and Hakim Warrick... We're not going be significantly better or worse by gaining or losing one of those guys...

Man I just remember going into this offseason Windhorst put out an article saying the Cavs would be a marquee destination for FA's due to Shaq + LBJ, etc. etc.

But multiple times now we've been turned down now by guys who we've offered similar/more money to relative to other teams.

Not the end of the world obviously, we still upgraded the team but still is somewhat frustrating so far. At least to me.

On to Kleiza hopefully: compared to Frye he's actually more in line with a Wally replacement who can guard the tweener mold that we've been looking for

If not Kleiza then it looks like we're serious about giving Hickson or Darnell a shot at cracking the rotation. I'm not a huge Hickson fan and have become even less so with his back flaring up so I guess I'll just have to trust the brass who seem to love the guy are seeing things in practice that I haven't seen on the court. I like Darnell but he's got a limited upside but if he can develop the jumper and the lose some weight we coudl have a Haslem type 4th big which are always nice to have
