Jackson indicated that one game on the sidelines was enough to clear the fog for Kizer, who’s buried at the bottom of the NFL with a 49.5 rating.

“Between almost every series, I had conversations with DeShone,’’ said Jackson. “I wanted to make sure he was learning and growing in what he saw. We went back and forth on things. Yeah I think the sin was switching from Kizer in the first place and now you're in between a rock and a hard spot where it's like: do I continue starting a bad QB or do I admit I made a really short sighted decision

Switching QBs on a whim. Can't remember who posted it and where but those Wentz stats were terrible over that 10 week stretch last year. They didn't waiver. They made the smart choice. Hue made the emotional choice

Many people wanted to see Kizer sit out half a season before he ever saw the field. Kizer started out strong and there was a small chance early that he could get traction and play in a sustainable way.

But then he started to backslide. And it was starting to look like a pretty slippery slope that if allowed to continue could have put Kizer in a ditch.

Pulling him was the right move for his development. Let him rest up mentally and physically, and give him some time to digest and absorb the rough lessons he's been exposed to the first 6 weeks.

If Hogan didn't completely blow donkey cocks then maybe Kizer could have sat out a few more weeks. But one week off was better than no weeks off. Kizer needs to find his firm footing and start out just being competent, and limiting mistakes. He was on a very bad track when Hugh pulled him from the game.

There are absolutely a few experiences I've had in my career where I've been overwhelmed and struggled with a new task or activity. Simply stepping back and watching someone else execute successfully often made a world of difference.

Unfortunately for Hue, Hogan's atrocious accuracy ended this learning experience a lot faster than he probably would have hoped. But what we want Kizer to improve upon are the only things Hogan excels at, mainly dropping back, trusting his reads, and quickly letting it fly. If Kizer at least picked up a little of that, a week off was probably worth it.

So yeah, did this go how Hue wanted? Of course not. But the concept was clearly a stab at the pretty standard 70/20/10 training model.
