It has come to this... Cavs "exploring" trades

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Are you looking at the team as it is now or how it would look after we give up a package to get him?

Both. We would have to give up waaaaaaaaaay too much to get Melo, and he will most likely bolt in free agency. And yes, he doesn't fit this team at all.

Who the hell does fit this team? We are 5-12. How would a superstar not fit the team? Don't understand the "doesn't fit our losing team" argument.

I'd say "he'd require us to give up a ton in a trade and he'd leave as quickly as he possibly could in the off-season" constitutes a bad fit.

I have a feeling that the Bulls will be asking too much to get Deng. He has been playing out of his mind lately, and unless they are trying to go into tank mode for the season, which seems doubtful, it will take too much to get him. I still think Caron Butler is the safest, most effective trade for a starting SF that the Cavs can manage. It would take barely anything to get an expiring veteran from a rebuilding/tanking team in Milwaukee. I'm surprised this idea hasn't gotten more traction around here. It's not the flashy move, but it gives us a reliable starting SF on a team that desperately needs one.

Most of these other players that are being discussed, Melo & Deng in particular, are going to be FA's in the off season and if we really wanted them on our team we could just sign them in the off season without giving up any substantial assets (which it would take to get either of them anyway)

I was on the Caron Butler train all summer before he even went to Milwaukee. I was even more disappointed when he was acquired for guard Ish Smith and center Viacheslav Kravtsov...

We need a SF badly, and Grant needs to make the move ASAP.

Forget where I read it, but along with those thoughts, it was said that the Bulls would be asking more for Deng if they were to trade him within the Eastern Conference. Butler makes sense but his role is probably the same on the Bucks as it would be here, so I don't know that Butler would be available.

Butler for Gee.

I would be content with acquiring Caron Butler or Marvin Williams, but I do hope that we can get more from Clark once/if our offense rounds into shape.

Gee and a 2nd rounder is enough to get Caron IMO. I don't think teams would be willing to give up much more, unless some contending team gets desperate later in the season.

Easy answer to this, Melo isnt a superstar.

I'm just not sure what team Carmelo does fit for the money he'll demand. He will get a "true" max contract, and yet he's probably the worst of any of the "true" max level players. If he were cheaper and you could then afford to put more talent around him, you've got a chance with him.

What would it take to get affalo?

Tough to say, I definitely think he gets dealt, but who knows how much everyone is buying his start to this season. They want to open up that SG spot for Oladipo though so Afflalo should be on the way out.
