Jose Calderon signs with Pistons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just like the way this team looks with a true pg. He looks to pass first and actually runs plays instead of iso ball. They really run a lot smoother when LeBron touches the ball less. This is not to say that Calderon should be taking anybody's minutes (Rose & IT) but I do like him at pg much more so that Shump. If you remember when they first signed him, they emphasized the point the he does not turn the ball over a lot and that is the big flaw when LeBron is playing more pg.

Do we know rose was promised minutes? Or is that just speculative?

Either way Calderon will have a few games of starting till Shump gets back so we’ll have time to evaluate him over rose after that. But just from what I’ve seen of Calderon he’s already a better fit. Neither is good or reliable defensively but at least Calderon can shoot and when he misses he can get back into transition to play d unlike rose whos shots come almost entirely below the rim and needs to run the length of the floor to play d. We end up having to playing 4 on 5 in transition all the time with him. Which has been an issue for his teams his entire career.

Not sure about trading him tho. Who are we getting back for the vet min? Bogut? Tony Allen?

Yes its confirmed we promised him minutes

And trading him alone is pointless, i think he could be included in a trade though.

Really confused about Calderon. He is supposed to be the worst at defense, but he used to own Kyrie repeatedly on that end while shooting in his face. What is up with the fact he wasn't given minutes when Rose was down before?

He’s also really old.
It’s great that he played well against Detroit, but he’s a third string guy for a reason.

They got Calderon as a vet minimum signing for insurance. Both Lebron and Lue like the seasoned veterans especially when it comes to someone who can run the point competently and who shoots a high percentage from three point range.

Anything else he adds in terms of defense of anything else is just gravy. He probably defends as well if not better than the dis-interested version of Kyrie we've had. As long as his minutes are limited I just don't see how it hurts having him around unless there's something much more valuable available.

And he does give a piece to add in a potential trade at some point, no?

I’m waiting for Jose to have a couple 1-8 games and return to sieve mode on defense against teams whose spirits aren’t broken in the first 12 mins.

It's almost like he needed some time to figure out the offense and team to fit in. We had 2 days off where we practiced, it's almost like half the board was wrong about him and Lue. Neither are perfect, but the message of give the team time to jell crowd might be right.

I smell something cooking in here. Smells kind of like crow.

So if I am going to take credit for saying Green was our biggest signing in the offseason, and i feel i am still correct, i will take credit for thinking Rose would eb a great backup and Jose was ok for a 3rd pg but not really necessary.

Jose might be a 3rd pg, but fits well in emergency (not sure if Wade or Shump is our 2nd). But Rose has been a complete fish out of water and i did not see that coming.

I liked the Green signing but lots of folks around here were saying he's trash which I never agreed with.

I was never a big fan of Rose but for a vet min signing what the hell. I hope he finds a way to fit in somehow. if healthy he has some skills but between the ears I'm not so sure so his role will need to be well defined whatever it ends up being. I still think he's nice insurance if the injury bug hits (assuming he's not the one injured).

Calderon was never a favorite of mine but I hated when he played against us, he always did his share of damage. I totally understood his value as a safety fallback for the PG position which was a hole we had last year that really hurt the team. The way folks bash him all to fuck was once again something that makes no sense to me. I think Lebron really likes and respects the guy too.

Played well again. Not a box score night but made some good passes, set up the offense and played solid defense.

Was a positive contributor for the second game in a row and defended both the ball handler and the pick and roll with intensity.

We've given him a lot of shit but he's really coming into his own - he's running the offense, making his shots, playing solid one-on-one and team defense and creating opportunities for others. There's really not a lot more you can ask from the guy at this point.
