Jose Calderon signs with Pistons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Koby Altman knew what he was doing in signing Calderon.

Derrick Rose was kind of a "we might a well" thing. The Cavs thought maybe something special could maybe be cultivated.

But before that, the Cavs identified the exact type of guy we needed to 1.) get thru the regular season grind and 2.) play the Warriors. Hence Jose(for #1) and Jeff Green (for #2).

Calderon could easily be our full season backup PG. And maybe he should. Maybe Rose can improve. We shall see. Playing on a contender instead of a bottom feeder is huge for him.

I just don’t understand how he’s a good defender all of a sudden? Is he just giving more effort in limited minutes?

He's a solid defender unless hes playing guys that simply physically completely outclass him.

Kind of like Korver defensively if that makes sense. Theres always just been a lot more dynamic PG's vs SF's.

He knows the game.

He is a smart defender and can really pester a guy. He is better on tricky pgs like Kyrie than physical ones like John Wall. He used to always get up to throw a wrench in Kyries grill

I don't understand Calderon.

Last time we tried to start him, his corpse was decomposing and he was the worst player I've seen in years.
Now he's leading our starting unit successfully.

Weird.

A lot of that is our rotations are a lot less experimental now...everyone knows what’s happening on both offense and defense and you can tell.

This is huge. Even now I remember how Kyrie would always struggle going up against Calderon, and I thought it was perplexing as shit. Now I understand it.

It's crazy how everyone wanted to cut Jose lol and now he's playing some solid D (wtf?) and looks pretty spry. Dunno what's going on but I'd love to see him off the bench playing like this into the playoffs right?

Sad Drose doesn't have ANY role on this team. I just don't understand how he can be athletic and not fucking defend.

I think Calderon mindset is completely different than what Rose's was. Calderon got into the rotation because of injuries and has the chance to prove he is still able to play in the NBA. Any cracks in his effort or play, and he might as well retire. He knows he is the expendable player on this roster. If the Cavs have a chance to upgrade, he will likely be the player waived to do so.

Rose on the other hand was really just going with the flow of the team in the games he did play. The whole team lacked effort on the defensive end. He did have a great game against the wizards defending Wall and Beal, that was one of the games the whole team actually gave effort. He was getting told to save himself for the playoffs by the coaching staff and medical team. They had him on a minutes restriction. If Rose was playing with 100% effort every moment he was on the floor, I bet everyone including us, would have been scared that he was going to blow out his knee again at any moment.

He’s not a smart defender

I’ve been trying to tell y’all

He was good defensively in Chicago because he had taj luol Noah there to help when his man blew right by him

It's called "getting into shape."

It takes longer for the old guys to get into NBA game shape at the beginning of the season.

6 points, 4 assists per 36 minutes! That is the worst offensive stats in the NBA as a PG. Throw in that he is one of the worst defenders in the league and then wonder how the f*ck does this guy get minutes even with all the injuries. Any D-League guy could do this much or better.

NO! Its called playing with Lebron, Love and the others.... They can make anyone look decent. See my post above.

His raw stats aren't good, but he keeps the ball hopping. He barely touches it. Brings it up, dishes it off and gets them into their sets. that is what he should be doing. Bring it up, get it out of his hands and be ready to spot up.

His full court defense is amazing at his age. Again. I think he sucks guarding guys like Wall or Shroeder, but against crafty guards he turns off their water because like Delly he is very good at reading what they are going to do.
