The year is 2050 and according to sources, Chauncey Billups is still considering Cleveland Cavaliers' front office job. Chauncey has counteroffered Cavs for the 6969th time. Meanwhile Cavs fans feel, Chauncey doesn't want to take the job until Cavs player-coach LeBron James commits his long term future to the Cavs!
Really man c'mon...still considering the offer? I realize he's not going to come right in and sign Micheal Jordan but 2 weeks is long enough to decide...

Gilbert didn't have other options?

Seems like a buddy hire

Those always work so well in sports don't they guys?

Were coming off as very inept right now

Yeah I'm over Billups. No clue why he is taking so long or what he's debating.

But at this point, it just doesn't impact much at all.

Lets just give LeBron the GM role? :dunno:

Man thrives at everything he does. Doesn't hurt us.

I mean, if that way, it guaratees us that he signs the super-max, then so be it! :chuckle:

Billups has all the leverage so he can take all the time. The GM job in Cleveland is the only one like it in the NBA. It just boils down to playing intermediary between an owner and a star player who don't communicate.

Chauncey is uniquely fit to fill it so he can probably ask for the moon here.

This might be one of those "dodge a bullet" situations.

We have our owner doing God knows what trying to hire a dude with no front office experience. Dude with no experience laughably oversteps his bounds, asks for even more power he wouldn't even know what to do with and Dan balks.

Our plan B turns in to more of the opposite......a basketball operations lifer who focuses on running the day to day of the FO but lacks cache of a former player. That allows us to be a bit more attractive (from a stability point) to a more experienced GM candidate who will have more authority over player personnel and not have to answer the "have you played before?" questions Chancey would likely lob at them.

So much for those "legal tampering" theories LMAO

I don't know how anyone can look at this as a good thing. Honestly its not about Chancey saying no, its about it took 2 weeks for him to do it, all while in the heart of the off-season and we don't have a back up plan. We should have moved on 8 days ago. Dan Gilbert is slowly destroying this organization and its credibility one day at a time.

At anything beyond signing big checks, Dan is really fucking horrible at this whole NBA thing. Wish he'd find a new hobby and be a hands off check signer. From a PR standpoint, the team has went from a destination to dysfunctional mess in a matter of weeks and many of the issues are directly from his increased involvement.

Curious how this turns out.
Seems to me, DG should have just kept whom he had in the drivers seat.
You don't create a hole when you don't need to.
