Mike Brown Hired as Head Coach

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
^ Maybe try the slogan for the season "commitment to the journey"

And wait until we trade for Kevin Love at the trade deadline. Instead of the headlines saying, "Cavs still holding out hope for Lebron in 2014" they will say "Cavs in best position to retain Lebron in 2014". LOL

But seriously, I'm sick of the media bringing up Lebron's name with anything to do with the Cavs. This team is Kyrie's and the Cavs front office needs to make that clear to Kyrie and to the media. Even if Lebron does come in 2014, this team will be Kyrie's.

This team is Dan Gilbert's, Mike Brown's, Chris Grant's and NEOhio's. It's time we make that clear with these superstars.

perhaps this was some masonic cryptic message to us RCF guys decoded as "commitment to the Safari."

Initially, I thought what the hell? The coaching speculation seemed awful. The reality is though that Mike Brown gets the job done on the defensive end, and if he starts putting in the final touches to a semblance of an offense, with Kyrie Irving at the point, I can't see this going south. The press conferences and other communications from Mike and other have sealed my support for this move even further. We got a well-respected, proven coach, who wants to be here, has a vision, can be here for the long-haul, and will change the culture. I feel more comfortable building around Mike Brown and his defensive identity than any trendy offense or particular style of play.

This hire and this process was something that only happens in Cleveland. This is a tale of redemption and possible glory, I hope. The city needs someone who reflects its hard-work, wants to be here for more than a paycheck, and will demand effort. I think we know enough about Mike Brown to know that those things will remain fixed quantities in the equation. It is a great opportunity, with a young squad and assets, for him to build a team in his vision on both ends of the court that brings his potential to light. Cut out the Kobe and Lebron variables, and I think we will see an impressive output.

Mike Woodson!!?? WTF

It should be our coach.

I have a hard time believing the team is going to be good defensively next year. Brownstar can't turn chicken shit into chicken salad. Grant still has to go get a couple more good defensive players. If Gee remains our best defender, the season is lost. Need a healthy season out of varejao, and with any luck a primetime defensive free agent signee.

Gee isn't our best defenders, Andy is.

Gee will see more minutes under brown than any other coach coming in would have played him. He's a lock for top 6 rotaion even if we draft porter

The way Byron used Gee to harass the ballhandlers in the early season would work great with these three conditions:

-Andy back
-An interior "eraser" like Noel
-Another NBA level SF on the team so that Gee can go 100% in short spurts and then rest on the bench

One thing I hope Mike Brown does is make sure to study the film of what the players on the team now did well in the past 2 seasons. I know he has his own system but for confidence buildering, it'd be nice if each player didn't feel like they were completely starting from scratch on both sides of the ball. It might also lead Mike to considering plays/schemes he might not otherwise use. Considering how much of a film studier he is, I'm fairly confident he'll do this.

Ehh ? That's now how the NBA of today works man. The 'superstars' are the ones holding the whole thing together; they are basically subsidizing the whole league.

Case in point, I believe Kyrie will have A LOT to do with who the next coach is after MB.

but their not starting from scratch. they operated in a base vanilla system on both sides of the balls. Scott had them primed for any system he wanted to put them in .

huh? There are no superstars bigger than the league. The NBA has intrinsic value independent of the players. Compare the 2007 all star game to the 2007 State Farm USA Basketball Challenge (i.e the Team USA scrimmage before the olympic qualifying tournament). They were held in the same building with most of the same players. The 2nd game was far more competitive, yet the first game drew all of the interest, had the expensive tickets priced in the thousands of dollars while the second game had tickets priced at $10-$50 and didn't quite sell out, and the first crushed the 2nd in tv coverage and ratings.

Here's my biggest question to RCF. I think it's pretty universally acceptable to say that Byron wasn't put in a favorable situation to succeed.

There were reasons for and against keeping Byron, but we can all universally agree that he was dealt a very shitty hand.

If Mike Brown doesn't pan out, will people always wonder what would have happened had Byron been given the 2013 season to prove himself? Was he canned pre-maturely? Will people be asking this again someday?

I guess what I'm saying is, Byron was not given the opportunity to prove himself with a full compliment of players.

Make no mistake about it, if Anderson Varejao plays this whole season Byron Scott would still be our head coach.

I personally do not think the Cavaliers did their due diligence in our coaching search. Chris Grant went with the safest pick in Mike Brown, I believe because he's looking out for his own job (Grant).

If this Mike Brown thing doesn't work out again, will people re-hash the fact that Byron didn't get a fair chance to prove himself? Byron clearly took his foot off of the gas, but there was little he could have done to significantly improve our record.

There are two sides to every coin. Clearly Mike Brown has some things that Byron doesn't, but the same can be said the other way around. I don't think Byron Scott is a bad coach, he was just put in a terrible situation (by Grant) and became the scapegoat here.
