Monta Ellis and possible other players/deals Cavs could get tomorrow night

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
i don't think the 6th pick is worth it, in my opinion there is a huge drop off in the talent level after the 5th pick...

I would still love to have the #6 pick, but I agree with the drop off after #5. I'm assuming Cousins goes to the Kings at #5.

3 Solid posts in this whole thread, the rest is inaccurate bullshit.

Keys- your post was all I needed to read.

I would certainly take Monta if it meant the 6th pick...

Not sure that's realistic, though. Monta as a 6th man would be amazing. He doesn't fit all that well though because it would be almost impossible for Mo and Monta to share the court.

he would probably demand a trade after 4 weeks if he has to come off the bench

Here's what needs to happen...

CLE trades Mo Williams, Delonte West, cash
GS trades Monta Ellis, #6 pick
MEM trades Rudy Gay (S&T), #12 pick, #25 pick

GS receives Mo Williams, Delonte West, cash, #12 pick
MEM receives Monta Ellis, #6 pick
CLE receives Rudy Gay, #25 pick

Why GS does it - (1) they finally get rid of the headcase that is Monta Ellis', (2) Mo nicely replaces Ellis in their lineup without all the BS that came with Ellis, (3) they get some salary relief with Delonte's non-guaranteed contract, and (4) they only drop from #6 to #12 so they can still get a young talent.

Why MEM does it - (1) they've wanted Monta for some time now, (2) Rudy's as good as gone anyway so they might as well get some value for him, and (3) they give up the #12 and #25 picks to move UP to #6.

Why CLE does it - (1) Rudy Gay becomes the legit #2 option to play alongside LeBron (assuming he re-signs), (2) they get rid of the headache that Delonte has become, (3) they get a late first round pick that they've been wanting to buy anyway.

I would absolutely do a deal for Monta and the 6th pick. First of all, how can you not expect character issues to come up when a player is being coached by Don Nelson? I live in the Bay Area, and all my friends who are Warriors fans agree that Nellie's personality is detrimental to team chemistry. Besides, many winning teams have had head cases and/or egotistical freaks. Examples - Dennis Rodman, Ron Artest, Rasheed Wallace, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant (2000-2002). Also, many people are saying Ellis is just a Mo-clone that can score more. And yet people want to keep Mo unless we can get an upgrade for him. The fact that Ellis can create his own shot every possession is a huge improvement over Mo, because Mo could only get himself a shot once every 3 or 4 possessions.

And I haven't even talked about the 6th pick yet. It seems like Greg Monroe is going to be available at 6, and he could easily be our center of the future. Or we could even package Mo (provided we didn't trade him for Ellis) and the 5th for the 5th pick + filler to draft Cousins.

The only way I see this happening is if we make this a three team deal, with the Cavs netting the 6th pick to take on Monta another team acquiring Mo, and Golden State taking on an expiring and Delonte. The possibility of adding a legit young big in the top half of the lottery would make the aquisition of Monta acceptable... but let's not confuse Monta with Rose just yet.

Indiana??

Cavs:
Ellis
Kelenna Azubuike
6th pick

Pacers:
Mo Williams

Warriors:
TJ Ford (8.5m exp.)
Delonte West (4.5m exp., only 500k guaranteed)

Indiana popped right in my head when you said this. Supposedly they want to move the 10th pick for a pg. Well this will allow them to keep it.

Absolutely 100% agree. I would take on Monta to get #6, after that his ass is on the bench unless we don't have anybody else to start. Even then, depending on the lineup, I might throw Boobie out there first.

I don't see why GS would do that with Mo, they'd need an expiring. Maybe we could involve Portland and send Pryz to GS and take Bayless for us? Or even send Bayless to GS too, whatever.

Four team trades are obviously tough, but I think Pryz has some of his contract covered by insurance so it's even better than a straight expiring.

Not bad. I still don't like Ellis though, whether or not that comes with the 6th pick.

Cavs get:
#6 pick
Monta Ellis

Pacers get:
Mo Williams
Ronny Turiaf

Warriors get:
TJ Ford
Jeff Foster
#10 pick

Only way I can think of getting the Warriors expirings.

Dude I swear, I did NOT see yours haha I guess we were both thinking of the same teams.

This can't happen. Gay can't be sign and traded until early July.
