Monta Ellis and possible other players/deals Cavs could get tomorrow night

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
PDcavsinsider Sources say #Cavs had talks but not close to anything currently with Mo Williams. This may be a quiet day for them.

Part of me worries that Grant and Gilbert are going to put all their eggs in one basket. I LOVE the idea of Paul or Bosh but it seems like its all or nothing right now. I really hope that this doesnt blow up in their face.

They're really in between a rock and a hard place right now. I do not envy their position. Some tough decisions and good educated guesses have to be made and nailed.

To me I think you have to execute the Monta deal. I mean Monta is 3 years younger, a much better pure scorer and he is someone who can legitimately bother a defense.

I feel like so much of Mo's game is Lebron dependent and considering how ball dominant Lebron is, it may be best to find a guy who can legitimately attack a defense consistently while being able to shoot from the outside a bit.

And then you get the number 6 pick. I mean its a sweat deal all around.

Lebron knows what he has in Mo. A nice running mate who isnt an elite scorer when it counts and who absolutely isnt very consistent as a dribble drive scorer.

If we cant land Bosh or CP3

I think it makes sense if we could pick up the #6. Indiana can swap picks with Minn.
Indiana gets the PG
Warriors dump the salary
We fill two huge needs
Minn moves up and deals Big Als contract. (IDK y but I heard it being talked earlier)

We then draft a PF at 6, buy into the draft and draft Bledsoe later

I agree. Bulls and Heat are starting to open up alot of space. I would like to see the Cavs make some moves. Like somebody just said.....they are in a VERY tough position. Make a modest move and try to get better (Ellis/pick) OR wait it out and go after Paul or Bosh? Go earn that paycheck Grant

You can still make a deal for Ellis without sacrificing your attempts at Paul and Bosh.

Obviously any trade for Bosh and Paul begins and ends with Hickson.

Maybe you make the Ellis deal while keeping Mo so you can retain assets. Maybe just send West, Moon, and Parker to Golden State for Monta.

If we can get Ellis *AND* a pick out of Golden State, then we'd turn around and use that pick to try to pull off another deal. Heck, it's possible we're looking to buy a higher pick, not so much because we want the pick, but so we have something to trade up.

But then you have to send an additional 8 mil to the raptors. That might be hard to scrape up. On top of that, they want to dumb Calderon or Turk. So...that would make that even harder, even if we could get a 3rd team involved

Agreed.. This whole dump a dud to obtain a stud process boggles my mind. You almost need a degree to master the art. The one thing I do know, is now that Chi has cleared enough space to add 2 max deals (#17 and Hinrich to Wash for a handy) I'm getting more nervous, and I didn't think that was possible.

Ok I just want to clarify, GS will not trade us Monta AND the 6th pick. Maybe Monta, and that's all. Think of it if you were a warriors fan. No way would I give up a chance to give Curry a good young big man; just so they can save a few dollars. Think realistically about this.

Fans don't sign the paychecks.

You're right, but they put the money in the bank accounts. They buy the tickets and merchandise, and this would be a dumb move. Even the Indians wouldn't be that dumb to trade a good player and a top pick for relief.

This might be true, but if the rumor is true, it means we could get Anthony Randolph thrown in. This is if the firesale is as rumored (Everyone except Curry is available). AR would not be a bad consolation prize.

You think it would be a dumb move for them to rid themselves of an older, less efficeint, paid three times as much version of a 20 year old that they already have on their roster? Sure maybe not if they were in playoff contention, I could see the argument if they were a 40 win team and on the brink of making the playoffs, but they are not going to make the playoffs next year and are likely hemmoraging money. Ellis is a terrible contract, and the 6th pick is the sweetner.

My point is there is no way they will trade a future running mate for Curry, just to receive cap relief. The Ellis trade is not what i'm arguing, it's the fact that they would throw in the pick as well. You saw how OKC was built, I'm sure GS would like to try the same thing. Build around young, top draft picks. Now Randolph and Ellis is not as crazy.
