NBA Draft Lottery Tuesday, May 17th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That’s my guy! We have agreed and disagreed on many prospects over the years.

And I think it’s less about his feelings on Ochai and more about wanting to be more aggressive in terms of swinging for a higher ceiling player in the draft while I may be a little more content to take the guy who’s going to help us right now.
Okay so you really like Ochai?
That post in the other thread sure seemed like it but I know some people have spoofed the guy who stanned him super hard during his freshman years few years back, so I thought there might be a chance you were making a parody post.

Off to go watch some Kansas clips

LOOOOOOOVE Ochai. Love the physical profile. Love the jump shot. Love the year to year improvements. The drive to get better. The drive to win. True gamer. True competitor. Excellent at getting open off the ball, excellent at helping other guys get open. Just a smart player.

Has warts. But just think in terms of fit, need, skill set, work ethic…he just screams “future Cav” to me. By all accounts a high character guy, driven to improve constantly.

Most importantly…a born winner. That matters to me more than anything else.

What do you see as his main warts. Both potentially fixable ones and ones that will likely always be there?

Positive from what I've seen - unselfish, has a sweet shot, strong body, and big time hops. Negative - doesn't create his own shot, doesn't create shots for others. Could be an outstanding defender, but hasn't shown it yet. probably not really 6'6" as listed. Agree with what Boobie said - seems like a good character guy.

I said this in the other thread, but I want Benedict Mathurin. Bear Down!

Nah, he sid Ochai wasn't productive last year and should be there with the Cavaliers 2nd round pick, based on his model.

I don’t see him as a high level creator against NBA defenses, and I’m not crazy about his footspeed against super quick guards or his first step or his off the dribble scoring against NBA athletes. He’s your classic “low ceiling, high floor” type of prospect. His free throw shooting is also a “keep an eye on” type of thing. He’s really improved drastically as a shooter over 4 years though. But again it underscores he’s not a natural scorer. But he’s become a reliable shooter on impressive volume.

He’s also maybe not quite as big or physical as some of the prototypical 3 and D wing. I’d like him to improve his FT shooting as well as maybe be a little bit MORE aggressive defensively but a lot of that was system at Kansas and he’s a hell of a system defender.

Hey we all have our own opinions on guys. I know Dan runs analytics on all these guys and sometimes those are great and sometimes they aren’t. He’s a good evaluator though. But we do disagree on Ochai. He averaged 18 and 5. Nearly 41% from 3 on 6.5 attempts per game. True shooting at around 60%.

He’s not a creator. I could see the model not liking that, not liking his USG% and not liking his FT%…2nd round is HARSH though. His advanced stats aren’t even bad. I wonder how much the model takes winning into account. It’s possible it’s just a production model.

I know he won’t consistently get shots for other guys. But for his position I think he projects as a passable rebounder. He’s got bounce. He’s not Kyrie with the ball on a string but I would not trust him to bring the ball up the court with heavy pressure. I trust him to be able to upfake a defender flying at him to calmly attack the rim and collapse the defense.

I just think he’s a winner. And I know he’s a shooter and a wing. Cavs need shooters. Cavs need winners. Cavs need wings.

I hope dumbass JBB doesn't affect the outcome of this pick.

Big chance he wanted Okoro and I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted the pick to be traded.

I have zero qualms with @I'mWithDan, and actually really enjoy his model and what it puts out. I was utterly shocked he said Ochai wasn't productive but said Keels was. I actually think Keels has better long term value than Agbaji, as well, but I couldn't fix myself to say Keels was the more productive player last year like he did. I've tried tagging him a couple times so he can explain his stance better than I may be doing it here, but I can pull his quotes over here, if interested.

Fedor has said before the Cavz could deal the pick :

This team doesn't need another young piece, or old piece, it needs as many guys as possible that fit what was going on through February for as long and as inexpensively as possible. *I* think having young guys on rookie deals allows extensions for Garland, Sexton, Levert, etc to be less onerous.

I know of an NBA ready two way wing that may be available with that pick…AND he just so happened to win a championship too.
