NBA Draft Lottery Tuesday, May 17th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This team doesn't need another young piece, or old piece, it needs as many guys as possible that fit what was going on through February for as long and as inexpensively as possible. *I* think having young guys on rookie deals allows extensions for Garland, Sexton, Levert, etc to be less onerous.

Yeah I totally agree with this. If there is young cheap talent to be had, you go get that shit. Having a roster full of expensive veterans is the worst way to build a team. You start locking yourself into what you have and your flexibility becomes limited. I’m never a huge fan of trading first round picks away unless absolutely necessary. Golden State has Jordan Poole and Kuminga who are both absolutely necessary talents for them to have going forward. They really blew it with Wiseman. Maybe if anyone can rehab his career they can. But Kuminga and Poole are going to be their most important depth pieces as Klay, Steph and Draymong continue to age and be expensive as shit.

The nice thing about using this draft pick is that we can really focus in on the right type of talent for this roster.

I know, best available player, but unless you have the chance to draft an All Star level PG or C, we can really focus in on wings.

Someone 6'5"-6'10", preferably. We already have the small guys and the tall guys. Time to add another versatile athlete.

NBA championship or CBB championship?

I'd take Middleton or Giannis.
Haha you and me both! But a winner is a winner!

Some guys are just winning players wherever they go. Mikal Bridges is a great example.

I have zero qualms with @I'mWithDan, and actually really enjoy his model and what it puts out. I was utterly shocked he said Ochai wasn't productive but said Keels was. I actually think Keels has better long term value than Agbaji, as well, but I couldn't fix myself to say Keels was the more productive player last year like he did. I've tried tagging him a couple times so he can explain his stance better than I may be doing it here, but I can pull his quotes over here, if interested.

My model is possession based. Agbaji played 5 more minutes than Keels per game (15% more) and played on a higher pace team.

His per game stats are better. His per possession impact is not. That is what my model values. What overall impact does a player have on a possession to possession basis and how does that impact compare to their peers.

I can do a more detailed breakdown of how someone like Keels is favored over someone like Agbaji, but this is the cliff notes explanation. Agbaji got a ton of minutes and played in a system that was advantageous to counting stats…….but what he did on a possession basis was very average relative to 10 years of prospect data.

Out of curiosity and not really relevant to current conversations how did your data evaluate Desmond Bane vs Aaron Nesmith? Both were in the same draft, both older prospects but Bane and his shooting has taken off in the nba while Nesmith has floundered.

I was trying to get a feel for how college shooting translates to nba and these two really stuck out and puzzled me

One thing that stands out is that Bane had four straight years of excellent to great three point shooting in college while Nesmith had only…one. Nesmith was younger and perhaps not as NBA ready and then maybe didn’t get the development opportunities with the Celtics once there.

What do we need with a shooting guard if we're going to have LeVert, Sexton, and Okoro on the team next year?

I'd like to get TyTy Washington. A backup point guard is the biggest need.

By the way, can Sexton be signed and traded? Or do we have to wait six months to trade him?

Id rather go Dyson as a backup PG if we go that route. Better fit with Sexland and hes tall.

As is, finding backup PGs on the open market is easier than big wings. Id rather use the draft to address the rarer need.

If Levert, Sexton and Okoro are the reasons to not get a SG at 14, I'm not sure why that's a good spot to get a PG...

If Garland is even playing 30mpg, that means you're spending a lottery pick on a guy that plays 18mpg. Seems like a bit of a wasted asset.

We need a guy who is a legit 6’5-6’8 so he can defend multiple positions, is a good three point shooter in volume so he can stretch the court, and can create his own shot to take pressure off Garland. I don’t care about the positional label, call them a SG or SF or even PF, doesn’t matter. Michael Jordan played as a SG.

Levert fits that profile but doesn’t seem to be a very good player, not to mention he’s expensive. Sexton kind of fits the profile on offense but is too damn short and a poor defender, not to mention we haven’t seen him post injury

Did you notice how good Garland looked playing next to Rubio this year before he went down?
