*Offical Cleveland Indians Game Discussion*

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
1-3 in the Indians lineup tonight are all currently over .300 albeit in a very small sample size for Brantley.

Let's hope those guys can keep it together next year, because that would be a hell of a start to the lineup. A .270+ LaPorta could go a long way as well, because he looks like he should be a 30+ HR, 100+ RBI guy within the next three years.

You and your stats....

I agree. One thing to look at next year is the number of left handers in the lineup. LaPorta and Peralta will be our only true right handers some nights.

Brantley L
Cabrera S
Choo L
Hafner L
Peralta R
Sizemore L
Valbuena L
LaPorta R
Misc Catcher R

I'm assuming they will be cutting Marte loose.

That may mean we see Santana, a switch-hitter, sooner than anticipated next year.

i hope to god thats not a line-up projection.....

Well, I think that's where we stand right now unless we make some moves in the off-season, or someone really steps it up in Spring Training - like Jordan Brown or someone. Unless I missed somebody.

Sheldon Ocker threw out a figure of $65M for payroll next season (not yet determined, he was just guessing). If that is true, I wouldn't count on any free agents of consequence.

Then the bench:

Misc utility player (Carroll probably gone)
Misc backup catcher
Trevor Crowe - 4th outfielder
Misc pinchhitter/pinchrunner

Early talk I've heard is that they may go after a cheap veteran catcher as one of the free agents. I think the theory would be that they need a veteran presence not only in the clubhouse, but also with the young pitchers. Personally, I think we have too many catchers, but we may move one or two in the off-season. The more I think about it, the more I think Santana will be with the club by the All Star Break. We'll need his bat. Hope he tears it up in AAA.

it was mostly directed at grady sizemore being in the 6th hole....

Yeah, I just threw that out there. Brantley may be taking over leadoff duties, and Choo is a natural three hitter, so what do you do with Sizemore? If he didn't strikeout so much, maybe number two - but Cabrera looks pretty good there to me. He's not a cleanup hitter - if Hafner is playing and he's healthy, that's his spot. Maybe the five hole. But he would have to exhibit more power and strikeout less. If not, he's hitting sixth, IMO.

Are the Indians going to win at least two more games this year? There are 11 games left after tonight.

:D

Ladies and gents, Justin Masterson, your major league ready talent!

Move him back to reliever?

Or maybe we let him start for the whole season next year, instead of having to make a transition mid way through the season to a starter.

Masterson's got to get the walks under control. I would like to see him get a shot at the rotation for next year and go from there. If he ends up back in the bullpen, so be it. We know he is a quality BP arm at the worst.

Going to be a small army competing for the rotation. Theoretically Jake Westbrook, Masterson, Jeremy Sowers, Aaron Laffey, David Huff, Carlos Carrasco, Hector Rondon, Yohan Pino, Scott Lewis, and maybe even Fausto or Chuck Lofgren. Probably see a reclamation project or two in there, also (I am looking at you, Benjamin Sheets). If Fausto and Masterson end up in the pen, it may not be such a bad thing. Would give the club two guys who can throw 95+ mph to go with Chris Perez, Tony Sipp, and Wood. We know both can handle a relief role, too; Fausto just can't close. And who knows, maybe it will help Fausto get under control. The club is quickly running out of options with him.

Another guy I would like to see given a realistic shot is Frank Herrman; that is if he isn't snagged in the Rule V. He is a big, hard-throwing sinkerballer at C-Bus. He isn't flashy but he 'gets the job done', to use a lame cliche. He is one of those feel-good stories, a low-round flyer from Harvard who has made himself into a potential prospect. He's getting old, though, so the time for him appears to be now.

What can I say, I am looking forward to the spring training pitching battles. The club also has another group of relievers ready to graduate to AAA (Ryan Wagner, Zach Putnam, Steven Wright) and some starters like Jeanmar Gomez, Eric Berger and Kelvin De La Cruz (depending on if he can pitch w/o pain in winter ball). The team has some talent now they need to transition it to bigs in a timely fashion this time. It will be on the shoulders of the new managerial team to do what Wedge and Co. did back in '04/'05.

I agree with this, but one alarming stat is that lefties are hitting over .300 against Masterson, and righties more like just over .200. The word is out on him - opposing teams have been loading up with lefties when Masterson starts. Another challenge for him to overcome.

Nice post, BTW.

Masterson will not make it with that delivery as a starting pitcher... Just won't happen..

He is no Eckersley...
